Hello /biz/, i'm sure you've all seen the endless ampleforth shilling of recent and it started to get on my nerves too,
until a friend of mine told me he was going in on ampleforth so i decided maybe it's worth investigating.
By the way, i do two degrees one being economics. So i think i might actually understand how this works.
This could be some genuinely revolutionary tech, but i'm not sure it's going to play out the way a lot of people think it is.
I'm looking at it as a good way to "cash out" at the end of the coming bull market, without having to pay insane taxes.
But anyway, look at pic related so u can see what im talking about

Yesh Anon you get it, however the increase in supply is meant to dilute the price back down to 1$. It's spread out over 10 days so the market isn't shocked, but 10 days is too long to let the price settle back down to 1$ because demand is too high. Too many people have huge boners, but the idea is once the supply gets big enough, those boners won't matter. And woila, you have a stablecoin

>>20695064
yeah, that makes a little more sense, so i guess the graph could be adjusted so the lowest possible price is $1 and the lowest possible demand (mcap) is 10 million i believe? it really does look promising as a stable coin and im definitely looking at cashing out for AMPL at the peak of the bull run

how is it a stablecoin if the underlying value is still constantly changing, regardless of the nominal price

isn't the entire concept behind this token a conflation of nominal price with real price?

>> No.20695117

>>20695105
the underlying value is changing, you always own the same % of the network, but it gets divided into more pieces

>> No.20695187

>>20695099
It can go as low as it wants desu. Price and demand interact directly with each other to influence supply and reach equlibrium

>> No.20695244

>>20695117

right. exactly what I said. so the nominal price stays the same, but the real price (the value) changes.

this provides no benefit - it's merely obfuscating the real value of the token, destroying price's use as an economic indicator.

this is merely a more convoluted version of a hard-capped coin.

That is not the definition of a stablecoin. Tether is a stablecoin, but can be inflated to displace your network ownership percentage.

how should it work instead? im trying to simplify the process because a lot of ppl on biz seem to be either fomo or disregarding it, few ppl actually talk about how ample works

i'm not sure how you would graph it to be completely honest. one example is a theoretical ideal scenario where trading brings price to the point where it would take numerous rebases to get below the threshold for rebase, and supply and demand are perfectly matched so that price drops the same percentage as the rebase. in this ideal scenario, supply increases while price declines.

how you could graph that, i'm not sure

>> No.20696338

I'm going to simplified how this ""estable""" coin works.

Basically, it's like putting money in a bag. When you buy their token you're buying a percentage of that bag and at the same time you're adding more money to the bag.
So if many people are coming and out their money inside, the bag keeps growing and growing. And so, grows your money. Remember, you own a percentage of that bag, so the bigger the bag, the better for you.

Problem, from the moment the rest of the people start taking the money out of the bag, the bag gets smaller and smaller. So it will reach a point, where you own a percentage of a bag, without nothing inside.

He has a point, the rebases aren't going to be positive forever so you might as well sell while you're up on the free AMPL. Buy in again when it dumps.
