This happened to me about 15 years ago. I got a letter in the mail telling me I was eligible to apply for unemployment, so I did. I got about 1200 dollars, then I got a letter like yours. Also, they did a 'fraud investigation' because I was a dick to them on the phone when I called to find out what why I was getting a bill for 1200 dollars due to overpayment of unemployment when they were the assholes that told me to apply, and approved the application. Well, their investigation confirmed what I told them, so I still haven't paid them back. I moved out of the state a couple years later, so their threat that I can't collect unemployment until I pay it back is worthless. Apparently they are charging interest on it too. Fuck them. I'll never pay them. If I waste money, I don't get it back. Neither do they. Motherfuckers.

Restaurant was forced to close for months earlier this year. I filed for UI and just started getting it, I assumed I qualified, I wasnt working. There is an appeal process but it's looking like a pain in the ass, having to fill out a ton of forms, all so some government employee can arbitrarily decide if I owe it back or not...

There is 0% I pay it back regardless of how it plays out. It's just insane to me that they can send me something like this, months after I stop applying for UI, no email notification. With a two week deadline. If I don't do a bunch of paperwork on their 1990s barely functioning website within 10 days, I forfeit the ability to appeal it. What if I was out of state on vacation or camping or something and this happened? I'd just be fucked, no chance to even appeal.
