Anyone getting into the gen 1 pokemon cards craze atm? I collected them in primary school and if i kept them they would be worth a fortune. I remember the day i took a first edition charizard into the game shop, i was 12 and the old guy swindled me into thinking 3 Michael Jordan basketball cards were way more valuable. I want to go back to see if that old prick is still open.
>>23166752I have a bunch of 1st editions, what do?
>>23166764Do some research and check the current market, logan paul is making them trend currently so good time to sell lower cards and preserve the rarer ones because they are only going up in value

I had Charizard and Blastoise and about 100 other shitty ones. no idea where they went.
>>23166752I have a couple binders of them laying around.Never did get a charizard though.
I gave it away for free about 10 years ago.Probably worth a couple of mills by now
Like others I gave mine away. Kept a few Yugioh cards though. Sports cards are money now too. Almost All collectibles are rising in value.

He came back to the car and i opened it anxious to see what id got, at the bottom of that deck- in the first pack i ever got, there it was "i got a charazard" i exclaimed happily, his eyes light up and he smiled cuz he knew that i was excited over it... to this day i still have that card, a bit beaten and played but decent condition and after alllllll these years and when i grew out of the game i told him to keep these safe for me, and they still sit there in his safe till todayNow i dont know how much they might be worth, but its a entire set of holoGs from the day of release booster packs- i think its nearly every card. Can a Charizard reach 1M or it's already too much? Also there's tons of millionaires, but not many billionaires and trillionaires already do not mess around with collectibles and trillionaires don't even have the liquid money for this.73 trillion is about the whole active liquidity, maybe 210 trillion if we really really push hard.

The first edition cards are now over 20 years old and people who are now turning 30 or over find them highly nostalgic. Its also coinciding with the pandemic mentality and people reverting back to childhood memories for comfort. Logan Paul has been subscribed to pokemon youtubers for years and has been a fan like most/some others his age. Its also a way to get another type of people interested in investing, not everyone wants or can be interested or motivated by stocks.

The market for MTG is so much healthier. There's actual liquid markets for the cards because people actually play the game. The actual Pokemon tcg is unplayable.

Just found my binder. Is this junk worth anything? The Machamp is holo and a first edition if that matters.

>>23186691>im not sure anon but im pretty sure you can just google psa and their site should have a "how to" and maybe some safety/precautions you should take before sending.I will take a look into this, especially considering that a great many of the listings on ebay seem to have had their cards graded by this company.>you have potentially multiple thousand dollar cards on your hands so take care of themI will, but sadly I only have a handful of the holo first editions and they are all in "played condition", but maybe they're worth something. However their value seems to fluctuate a great deal. (pic related)It's funny, when I moved out of my parents house I threw away all of the stuff I had as a kid, but I couldn't bring myself to throw away the pokemon cards or the legos. I guess it's good I didn't.
I'm a day 1 Pokemon/Yugioh player who never stopped, I can 100% tell you it's all a big scam. The entire collectors market is controlled by the 1% of players who have been buying up all the shit for the past 10 years then pushing the idea that they are worth 1000s of dollars. No one actually paid them any attention but then you get some big YouTuber tricked into paying the "retard" prices since he doesn't know any better and now everyone thinks that's the value. I don't know if it'll ever go down now that's it's all said and done but as a player it's honestly ruining the game, everything is so expensive now when all me and my friends want to do is play children card games with shiny cardboard.
>>23186552It is in first edition so definitely worth something. all the other cards shown in your binder are in unlimited edition so they are almost worthless.
>>23186808You need to find its lowest buy it now price to get an accurate valuation.
>>23186818That's not how markets work. the hoarders don't set the price. only sellers and buyers can move the price. the prices are high because no one is selling. They aren't selling because they believe the price will go higher.
What do u think of my ol collection /biz/?
>>23166752How does something as floppy as a pokeman card get to be worth so much? Just because of ego? Did pogs ever sell for as much?
>>23186552PSA or BSA are the 2 grading systems for cards, you send it to them, they evaluate it and put it in a hard case with the score it recieves.First before sending it check if its valuable. Dies it have first gen mark on bottom left of picture square, is it shadowless or does it have a shadow dow right side of picture square. Check the corners for whitening, check the edges, check the centering of back and front. Check the condition of the surface of the back and front. Send it to either, pay the fee, they grade it send it back

Just because of ego? Did pogs ever sell for as much? It's like fiat money but with cartoon animals.
>>23186899Yup. I think unlimited edition Charizards are like $20. The whole market is ridiculous. The only reason the prices are astronomical is because the first printing was kept to a low supply because nintendo didn't know how well the cards would sell here. They sold out very quickly and most states didn't get them. most people had to buy these off the second-hand market to begin with since stores mostly just had the unlimited edition packs. Everyone gets excited to look through their old cards thinking they have a goldmine but unless you specifically sought out the first edition cards which you wouldn't do unless you were a collector you wouldn't have these.
>>23186899Pretty much. That's not to say standard foils aren't worth much, they "just" need to be PSA graded 9 or 10(expensive and practically impossible outside of freshly opened cards). That said, it looks like you have a varied collection- see if you have any "shining" cards, cards with 3 stars, or a white star in the bottom right, those are special and still worth a bit even if ungraded.
>>23186868>the prices are high because no one is selling. That's because the the fucking hoarders bought them all while they we're cheap. Now the only sellers are the hoaders who have 100s of copys who ask for crazy prices and some random dude who found a copy in his basement after seeing threads like this.>Only buyers set the priceAka the retarded YouTubers who make people think the price is real.
>>23186924What about diamonds. Well that's a little different since one player owns like 95% of the supply and they literally made diamonds part of American culture with their ad campaign. But the price of diamonds are still governed by the laws of supply and demand. A small amout were ever circulated and demand was kept high so prices will remain high unless people stop getting married or De Beers unloads their stored lot. It's also difficult so sell your diamonds on the second-hand market. You have to use the equivalent of car dealers who will try to buy at the lowest possible price. With yugioh cards a lot of different people own the cards so the market is more fair.
>>23187050Noone has a monopoly on yugioh cards. if you want to make deck there are plenty of common or rare version/reprinted cheap copies of the cards you are after. You can also sell the cards after you are done playing with them so that doesn't even matter. You can't stop people from investing their money the way they want to.
>>23187050I said only buyers and sellers set the price. the current price is the last sale price. you as a potential buyers don't have to buy if you don't like the price. Any sale made is consensual and moral.
When should you go get them graded? I have a bunch of 1st editions
>>23187049Thanks. Kinda cool how some of these became valuable
>>23187229You can send them to PSA to get them graded but a grading isn't worth it unless the card is worth alot already.
I don't trust pokemon cards, vintage comic books are really that only collectibles that I like to speculate on.

I still got a few thousand pokemon cards, and atleast 5 charizards but they arent mint.. still worth anything ?
>>23188622Not much really. 100-300$. No decks are 1st edition and on top of that the decks don't have charizard tier holo. That being said decks will likely go up in price because they're full of mint cards that you can grade and sell 15-20$ a pop so ~10$ profit per card after grading fees

you guys who say you "wish you never got rid of it" are idiots. These are only worth anything because of the PSA10 rating. Basically the card has never been touched before and is in perfect condition. The ones you had that got chewed on by ur dog are worthless

>>23187350>>23186886Here is the back. I can see slight white on the edges in some places. Otherwise looks ok?
Are these cards counterfeit? They're not first edition, but I'm thinking even non first edition are worth 500-2000$ if you grade them. I feel weird seeing all those charizards fetch such insane prices when I'm 100% sure every kid in my class had like 20 charizards.https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000398790324.html
>>23182188I bought like 10-12 packs to put in my christmas tree back in 2007-2009 , they were far far prettier than the first edition garbage that looked primitive by comparison.I don't understand people buying 11 card packs though, in my country they were expensive as shit to begin with. You were far far better off paying 10$ for 2 decks of cards which had like 120 cards in them, compared to buying packs for 2-3$ each containing only 11 cards.Same deal with Duel Masters.
>>23189862>AliExpress>Are these counterfeit?
Got a whole binder full of OG cards. Should I try to determine the value by evaluating the card and condition then see what it's selling for on ebay?
>>23189773>>23189764Thats a 1st edition shadowless, great card looks in good cond of front, back is a little chewed out. It will prob get a PSA 8 and is only going up in value
I only have from x and y onward, I was a very late bloomer with pokemon. I did manage to pull that rainbow rare gx charizard that was all the rage couple years back. Some asshole on ebay said it wasn't mint enough and sent mine back but I'm starting to wonder if he swapped a shitty one he had on hand with mine.
So the easier something is to destroy the more money it will be worth in the future?Because Pokemon cards aren't resistant at all, they're even crappier than YuGiOh and DuelMasters cards.I remember how thin the cards were and how they'd always get whites around the corner and it was easy as fuck to get the corners curved even with my 8 year old fingers. The people who shipped them definitely didn't give a shit about keeping them in mint condition so why would anyone.Soon we're going to see food-based cards collectables made out of sugar and the whole challenge will be keeping them not only looking good but also smelling good.Imagine collectables which were meant to be eaten/burned/deflationary.

But when paid youtubers start with retarded sories like "I just found this 20 year old booster pack at Target under the shelves."When groups and companies will outright start looking in redneck areas and even go to Japan redneck areas asking people in their houses to inspect their attic and basements for porkyman cards. Then that's when the absolute mania will strike and the bubble will burst.10,000 cards each printed and so far only 600-900 have been discovered.

I've just looked at the prices along the years. It seems like if you owned a Mewtwo you could have 30x'd your investment. Haven't checked on Mew yet.
>>23189773Pokemon cards piss me off compared to sports cards. Especially shitty 1998-2002 cards. They were exceptionally easy to damage. I remember creating a few white scratches on the edges and even creating bending scratches on the card outright simply by not unpacking them correctly. Those edges because of how thin and cheaply they were made were exceptionally easy to damage from any kind of impact, even outright scratching it against the fucking plastic package. You can imagine how easy it is to destroy the edges from shuffling the cards in your card.Pisses me off how this cheaply produced bullshit is worth so much when they could outright get damaged and get imperfections during the fabrication and shipping. Makes me want to counterfeit them all with a superior plastic and cardboard.

This collector market is just a scam, essentially, its become like crypto, where nobody actually buys it because they care about it, but buying them with the hopes that they can one day sell it off to someone else and make a profit. Its become a investment/money laundering scheme. There is even something similar happening with video games, where they have sealed video games and then try to grade them, which is even more retarded. The only good thing is that PSA segregates this market from collectors who just want the card, but this is also why the majority of people's pokemon card collections are mostly worthless because none of them would have PSA grade of 9-10 rare cards. Also, thanks to the influx, I think they halted PSAing new cards.
