I have a mortgage. This makes me superior to everyone who rents. We mortgage holders are a class above renters. We are better businessmen, friends, partners, and lovers. Renters are like bugs compared to us. Discuss.

If I would have used my savings for a down payment on a mortgage instead of invest in LINK I'd want to off myself right now. Not to mention potential expenses like roofing, furnace, water heaters etcs. The returns I would have made on equity from a down payment on the house would have been so low it would have taken an entire life time to see that level of gains in comparison to what I saw with LINK. I bought a home this year with record low interest rates. I get 100% access to my own house for only 5% down. I am allowed to deduct home mortgage interest, I love doing my own DIY projects, and the neighborhood I managed to get into has been appreciating 10-12k per year on average for the last 10 years so that’s fun. To all renters - it’s really not so bad being a home owner. All arguments aside, just being able to walk into my house after work with my fiancée making dinner and our pets chillin on the couch is very gratifying. I rented for 4-5 years and have nothing to show for it. Additionally, I had the worst neighbors above me and next to me. I know it’s a preference and, as someone who has done both, I actually enjoy being the home owner. These threads are so one way or the other, but honestly if you can buy land outright you should or at least get it financed. I work as an underwriter and renters tend to also have student loans so when they have negative equity so they are basically insolvent and we don’t lend to them at all. It takes a lot longer to amass 200k in cash while renting than it does staying with your friends or parents for free. Real estate is good for collateral and, if you wanna get real technical, everything is always taxed no matter what even your estate so you really never own anything lol
