>be me
>got a little forge as bday gift when i was a teenager, havent used it but allegedly solid and heats up to 1000C
>bought a railroad tie ages ago, built a janky little make-shift anvil
>have done some blacksmithing before at a different forge
>have literal scrap metal
>can make an "ArTiSaN" hook in <10 min, actual experienced blacksmiths can do it in 30 seconds
>easily sells on Etsy for $30-35

is this it? is this the ticket out of waveslaving? even if i dont get any better or any faster and only make 6 an hour, that's $180 an hour
assume the demand isnt quite that high, assume i have to branch out into different products so not all of my work gets bought, factor in the cost of metal and gas, factor in the time spent selling rather than making, very conservatively still making $50+/hr. am i missing something?

demand WONT be that high (for a hook)
you may only get 1 sale in a week, you may get 10, you may get none.
you have the right idea but take a look at whatss selling on etsy:
face masks, tshirts, socks.
that shit is like printing money. $1 mask at cost + 3 minutes of time: $15
$3 tshirt with a print on it becomes $20
overhead cost is a vinyl cutter ($150) and a heat press ($700, but you could probably get away with an iron at first)

it could be successful but not a lot of people buy metal hooks.
doesn't cost anything though to try. do it.

how about those face shields? clear sheet of plastic, sheet of foam, roll of elastic. cut plastic, cut foam, cut elastic. glue. these sell for $10 a pop, i shit you not.

fair, i was thinking they might be a good way to get a reputable store up on etsy before branching out into other stuff. the $30 price point is fucking absurd but seems to work at the bed bath and beyonds of the world, but id be plenty happy selling it for 10-15. could undercut em pretty damn hard, get a good reputation and build my smithing skills, then move on to spoons/ladles, custom artwork of names, etc
