The term "gaming" and "gamer" have been cringe since they were first used. I used to be ashamed of my MMO hours as a teen, I knew deep down games were a fun waste of time.

Saying your a "gamer" is like saying your a "junkie." I'm not judging, but it's not "cool."

I virtually never play games nowadays, but it’s still a shitload of fun to play some counter strike competitive with the boys. That’s the only exception and I would argue CS is the only redpilled game out there.

It's cause the landscape of development totally changed. Gen 7 marked the start of the big sellout and by gen 8 it drove everyone out except the highest budget and lowest budget devs, neither of which can make anything worthwhile and only panders with the most predictable, trashiest products for the lowest common denominator. Then you had all the culture wars crap on top of that which just further diminished any integrity the industry once had. It makes sense that it's super lame to be into games nowadays, because they are lame nowadays and if someone can't see it then I don't know what to say, I guess my tastes are different but it makes sense to me

It's worth mentioning that this was like 20 years ago and not everyone was on the internet like today, especially not when they were 7, so I don't know how well the universal argument holds in that situation. But you're right, exposure is number one, I'm just saying that on top of everything else it just sped up the process as someone who wasn't a native speaker. Plus I got to learn words that you wouldn't learn in a grade 2 classroom or casual conversation at that stage, etc.
