Here's an idea:
Everyone knows Minecraft. The guy made millions.
There are free tools that are even easier to use to make games like Unity and Unreal Engine 4.
Make a simple game.
Make it multiplayer.
Make it so that people have to host their own games.
Have a shitty server running at home to authenticate users that bought the game and ban those that pirated it.
F2P with cosmetics people can buy for real dosh.
Make sure the game is casual, prices for items are reasonable and skill level is minimal.
Make sure the game can be played on a toaster.
Release.
Get dosh making and releasing new pretty items for 4 dollars every now and then.
Never have to work again 9 to 5 again!

It still has to be different from the current shitgames.

Not really. Just gotta improve the existing concepts.

Here's an idea:
Everyone knows Bieber. The guy made millions.
There are free tools that are even easier to use to make songs like FL Studio and Garage Band.
Make a simple song.
Make it catchy.
Make it so that people can't get it out of their heads.
Have a shitty server running at home to authenticate users that bought the songs and ban those that pirated it.
Free to stream with tshirts people can buy for real dosh.
Make sure the song is shallow, prices for tshirts are reasonable and complexity minimal.
Make sure the song can be purchased even at Walmart.
Release.
Get dosh making and releasing new pretty songs for 4 dollars every now and then.
Never have to work again 9 to 5 again!

Wow, that was easy.

Except no one is going to buy your songs because the industry has a very easy entry level. To make a video game you need brains and knowledge of computers.
Anyone can splat together a song.

Except (1) I don't know how to code, (2) I don't know which language or languages would be best, (3) learning to code is hard as shit.

(1) You need to know very little with today's tools. It's easy to learn. Just follow the tool's scripting tutorial.
(2) Unity and UE4 are the best tools today. One uses one language the other one another.
Both do same job and look the same in the end. Completely up to you to choose. Tools were designed to make games. So the language choice doesn't matter since it's pre-selected for you.
(3) No. Not if you use these tools for such a narrow purpose.

In these sorts of things, luck plays much greater of a role that whatever you actually made.

Notch got lucky, as did the creators of every other indie hit you hear about.
For every indie game that made it big, probably thousands flopped.

Are you willing to make that big of a time investment for such a small chance of making any return?

If money is your primary goal, your time is better spent elsewhere.

Your game doesnt really matters, marketing does. Unless you spot the empty niche everyone is sure they found.
Also the bieber analogy is spot on

No. Maybe a crappy prototype, but not a game.

Temple run, angry birds, bejeweled.
Super simple to make(literally no more than a month tops) and look where they are.
What about Flappy Bird? That was even easier, got took down and then someone made a clone within a week of it.
Complexity in this industry doesn't pay. Keep it simple and short and you get paid.

easier said than done

1: you need the programming skills to actually make something decent which can take years to develop, most pros were doing this kind of thing since they were 14

2: you will likely need to make several games before you hone in on something popular enough to turn into a business, you may never do so

3: there are tons of guys like this who will plagiarize you in an instant the moment you gain any sort of popularity

And a song of equal effort would be just as crappy.

But remember, it's so easy to make both! What are we all waiting for? There's profit to be made!

Notch was samefagging his minecraft game for a while at /v/ until the snowball started rolling. It's true that he got lucky. But if you don't do anything, you will never get lucky.
