The problem isn't that he needs to be authenticated, it's that it asks for your password. API keys exist for a reason, you can usually delete them at will, if there's an error you can know which key (and so which bot/client) caused it, you can set permissions for what they can be used for. With a password, I can delete your entire account if I want, and changing a password is harder.
