I posted this same question in the /pmg/ thread. Can someone explain how buying PSLV will contribute to a "squeeze" on anything other than the price of the fund's shares? Buying it might push up the price of the shares, but buying in doesn't create more shares or prompt the fund to purchase more physical silver, does it?

Buying physical and taking custody is the most ideal way to apply pressure. However, if you can't do that and only have recourse to PSLV this can still serve to create dislocations. To the extent that PSLV's NAV can be driven to the point that it begins to diverge from SLV/spot price will contribute to the cause by making it obvious to the market that there are TWO silver prices: paper and physical. Basically the goal is to decouple PSLV from SLV and spot price. However, you are right: buying physical is the best approach, if possible.
