It's likely going to be a rough ride to start. We're in a bear market right now though, so it is the best time to buy. You first need to buy some of one of the big 3 (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin). I reccomend coinbase to start with. It takes time to confirm your account info, but you can buy all three and store them securely through coinbase. You use something like coinbase to buy bitcoin with your bank account or credit card, and then send it to an exchange like Bittrex if you want to trade any of the many altcoins out there. There are 700 or so alt coins. Most are shit, but quick money can made from them. Play around with the coinmarketcap website to see all their values and changes. If you do use Bittrex to trade altcoins, make sure to enable 2 factor authentication. It can store your coins just like coinbase, but it isn't as secure. ALSO ALSO, some major changes could be coming to bitcoin aug 1st. Everyone is kind of panicking about them, and no one knows if the value will shoot up or drop.

Learn about blockchain tech and the current internal political issues like the bitcoin scaling debate.
Inform yourself about BTC, ETH, LTC until you understand what they do, how they do it and what they try to achieve.
Buy all 3 of them.
Take a break.
Then when you feel like experimenting and gambling, look into smaller altcoins and consider buying small amounts of projects you believe in.
If you don't do this but rush into it with the fear of missing out, then you will be fed to the people who know what they are doing. Technical and political understanding is everything in this market.
Don't research in /biz/.
Good luck!

Some people will tell you crypto will crash in august, other say it will moon. Or maybe nothing at all happens?
Don't believe any of them. Understand what is happening and make up your own mind
