The stock is "worth" $10 but will convert directly to shares after the merger.

I just learned what bonds are. So, tell me, why would I buy a stock over a bond? Seems like the only advantage a stock has is that it represents ownership of a company - which means jack shit. Bonds are just loans that pay a fixed interest rate over a fixed period of time. Like, the only risk is if the company goes bankrupt, in which case you are in front of stock holders for being payed back, anyway.
