>>Buying TSLA at $4000
You need to separate the numbers of shares bought or sold which can be the result of fund flows from the weighting of TSLA, just because they buy something doesn't mean it will end up becoming a higher percentage of the ETF. ARK's timing in how they weight TSLA has been extremely successful, they often end up selling the top because of their 10% max weight guideline and then pick up cheapies on days like yesterday.

TSLA isn't a true bubble, it may be overvalued with years worth of growth priced in but it never deflates much because the speculative case for the company is still intact. As long as people think that they'll lead the autonomous driving or energy storage industry, and it's very likely they will, the price will keep most of its support until they fulfill their goals and then it will be valued fundamentally.

I think it's worth $600, maybe 650. I think that value will increase going forward, but I dont see it outpacing the hype for the next several months. I certainly wouldn't buy into it right now.

I feel like there are stronger profits to be made with long positions elsewhere.

The self driving package costs $10k.
In a couple years, this payment will represent the cost commercializing your new robotaxi asset.
When you sell the used car the new owner has to pay $10k too.
Since TSLA is public, Elon probably won't unilaterally give up this income stream.
Ergo they are pursuing it, it is pursued, done deal.

I doubt most of the investors think they're getting SpaceX ownership, it's more that there is a lot of synergy between the companies that's hard to properly value and they're a bit overzealous and speculative. Tesla directly benefits from the Boring company and producing parts for SpaceX, such as the batteries that power the control surfaces on Starship. They may eventually benefit from Starlink if they figure out a way to fit a terminal into a car that doesn't look awful. These are not huge sources of revenue but they could become significant as Elon Musk disrupts more industries.
>These people act like there will be 0 competition and don't even realize that once cars become fully autonomous we'll probably stop actually buying and owning cars soon enough.
They do have very high gross margins for a number of reasons and high market share but you're looking at it the wrong way, Tesla is a car company in the sense that they'll make cars which have a lot of competition but their end goal is to dominate the robotaxi industry which will be a winner take most situation because the company with the most robotaxis on the road will be able to route more efficiently so not only will passengers be picked up faster, Tesla will have greater margins and so they can outcompete most other companies. Tesla has the cheapest self driving production and the least regulatory hurdles for developing it. They're vertically integrated unlike companies like Google that have to partner to retrofit vehicles and they'll have the battery supply to actually produce the EVs that are needed for this.

>> No.29592865

I know, but it's a mistake to think there's a big difference.
TSLA owning all the robotaxis itself, or letting owners monetize their cars as robotaxis and taking a $10k fee every time the car is sold/resold. These are the same thing just with some costs shifted around, and my arguments about TSLA being first + not weighed down by a legacy ICE business still apply.

I actually can. CXW suspended their dividend and is paying down debt like crazy, they have an extremely financially savvy management. GEO has a full-retard 13.5% divvie that it can't possibly sustain. CXW has much less exposure to federal prisoners, and Biden is saying he wants to cease the use of private prisons for federal inmates. Every major analysis of private prisons recommends CXW over GEO. I see this as a major opportunity to buy while there's blood in the streets.

Algos front running retail on news pumps, okay I'm not saying retail can't be observed at all you're right about that. But if you notice, the price ultimately rose to new highs after the split price action was finished. The secular market cap growth caused the split and continued afterward, dwarfing the effect of every news pump and dump like the split, battery day, and S&P listing.

It is though.

That's not direct ownership of stocks, is it. You own an ETF interest, the ETF owns the stock.
Businesses also own ETFs and Mutual Funds.
Still you can see that the influence of individual pickers is smaller, not larger, than it was in the days of Joe Kennedy's shoeshine boy.

It's not a matter of whoever has the best batteries will become the most successful EV automaker just like the companies who produce the best engines aren't necessarily the most successful ICE automakers. Tesla already has great batteries but if someone pulls a rabbit of out their hat and has the ability to mass produce a cheap solid state battery, other companies will soon produce them as well because there are thousands of cell chemistries that cannot be patented. Already the performance of modern batteries are enough that EVs are better than ICE, Toyota or whoever gaining solid state would just be stealing their own sales and they have smaller margins on EVs so it could actually end up being a net loss for them. This is part of the problem with the other automakers, at best they're cannibalizing themselves in the transition to EV while losing market share to pure EV companies. On top of this they have issues with unions and the dealership business model.

The biggest factor with batteries is supply and price, Tesla has secured their supply chain and is spinning up producing their own cells. Eventually batteries will be no different than any other auto part.
