As long as what you're doing is comfortable for you with, that's what matters. If you can't sleep well at night, then the gains aren't worth it.
But if you aren't even outperforming QQQ or even SPY, then maybe heavily consider your strategy

Personally I go in deep into low-risk/medium-reward plays. If I can't see myself risking more than 30% of my portfolio in the play, why am I even bothering with it?

I got so spooked by the crash at the end of 2018 that I stayed cash and kinda stopped following for awhile
notice how SPY basically caught up to my cash position after I pussied out of the market for awhile and focused on other shit. Fucked up the March dip since I didn't have the guts to enter until May, and the first shit I buy are value traps like REITs and oil (was too early for oil) until I learned a bit later on to focus on tech first in June

I think my reasoning is that I generally buy if the studies and science seem convincing, but seeing as biomemes can really still flop anyways, I'm wary of putting more than a relatively small amount into anything — about 10-15% or so.
