Did anyone else completely lose interest in vidya when they got into investing? It scratches the same itch, only you get money instead of points for the effort which is much more exciting.
>>29723135yes but it has come at the cost of not being able to concentrate on other things aswell
>>29723135I'd rather be playing Street Fighter, but I feel like crypto is a once in a lifetime opportunity so I end up spending all my time on it now. It does feel like playing a game in many ways though.

>>29723135I started gambling on vidya instead
>>29723135A bit, my weekly hours played is down but I still fiddle around in training mode during market hours. Fuck I miss playing 4 with people in the same room as me.
I unironically lost interest in vidya when i started having sex. Even after my 7 year dry spell i still can't be fucked to play for more than an hour
>>29723608>Games should have been made illegalvideo games were one of the western worlds greatest mistakes
Not really. Now I play even more vidya to keep me from looking at charts and prices 12 hours a day.

Whenever I’m not researching/tracking I’m actively losing those sweet sweet gains. Is this addiction? Too much dopamine? How does one keep the magic bux rolling in while finding a balance? Help me bros.
>>29723612This. Same thing happened to me.When I started to get into crypto, I called 3 friends and told them we could all make it together...all 3 said fuck off or too risky or some shit. That experience and greed now governs my life. I love it.

I got back into vidya when I started investing, because I need something to distract me from charts while numbers go brrr.
Hey retards. Gaming is still viable because you're not investing 24/7. You just refresh your portfolio a few times a day and check biz for news. The rest of the time you should be doing things like working or chilling.
>>29723608You're 100% right and I wish you weren't. Across the monster hunter series and runescape alone, I have about 2000 hours. That's 2 and a half months. And I still fucking play runescape. Bros...

I fucking hate it, and now my brain is conditioned to want easy dopamine.
>>29725157I regret nothing about the countless hours I spent on games. It teaches you how to quickly pick up and master new systems for one thing, very useful skill. Probably wouldn't be a millionaire with a PhD now if it weren't for games.

How can people complain about games wasting your time shitposting on /biz/? Not researching alts or anything, just shitposting.
I love vidya, but too much vidya can distract you from the necessities of adult life. I got hooked on vidya to the point where I neglected developing any practical skills and now at 30 years old I'm a retail wagie who lives with his dad.Vidya is particularly insidious because of how effective a vehicle it is for escapism. People get lost in these virtual worlds without realizing you do have to pay at least some attention to the real world. Maybe some people are fortunate enough financially to get away with it, but I reckon the majority of big-time vidya addicts end up paying the piper, like me.If only I had spent more time getting my finances in order in my 20s then I would feel more comfortable now with my leisure time. As it stands I'm kind of all-in on crypto saving my stupid ass.
>>29725699>I don't see anything more impressive about mastering an instrument compared to mastering Street Fighter.then you are legit retarded and video games have rotted your brain to the point you think all those hours haven't been wastedgo back to /v/

>>29726120Learning an instrument is something that you can take with you to the grave and there are always new songs to play, new music to write, and greater heights to reach. Most instruments are timeless too, and won't be tossed away for a "new" instrument. Street Fighter is a blip on the radar. A Fighting game in a sea of fighting games. There is no creativity in it, you learn frame data and matchups and startups leading into combos, and eventually you know the ideal way to play. There is a skill ceiling that's far easier to reach than that of mastering an instrument. Nobody's saying you can't enjoy multiple hobbies, but actually saying that mastering a fighting game is comparable in any way to a master pianist or violinist or guitarist, is delusional. I'll go "oh wow that parry string was fucking cool" a few times, and get hyped at clutch victories, but it pales in comparison to what music can make a person feel in their soul. Mastering an instrument means mastering control over the emotions of other living things by the sounds you create. This is far more impressive and human, even, than mastering a video game, an object of the creative efforts of said masters in different fields. With a video game. You're playing the combined effort of masters. You're not comparable to them.
>>29726315I need to upgrade my real life build. That's my only goal as of now.
how is competitive gaming a less valuable pursuit than playing chess?

>>29726785Make a runescape mining bot and sell the gold
>>29726750It's not, those are definitely comparable. I think the main comparison here is a creative pursuit vs. a non-creative one. Bringing new things into the world and mastering different forms of human expression in my opinion, is just above the tier of hobbies that involve logic puzzles and mastering something that another person created themselves. What's more impressive and has more of an impact on the world? The person that invented chess, or the chess grandmaster?
>>29726785There are gamified crypto projects.

>>29723135Are you actually getting positive returns though?
>>29723608Another way to look at it is that strategizing in vidya in many ways shaped you into the perfect trader. Obviously I wish I wasted less time on it, but without it, I doubt I would have been able to be as profitable as I currently am.
>>29723608>>29723576>>29723560hits too close to home.
investing hasn't ruined games for me. i dont actually care about money as much now tho ngl. Other than my actual costs to live, its just like, a coin goes a bit tits up and i lose a decent chunk, and it feels disappointing like i fucked a clutch in a game. Doesn't feel like the sting that losing the money should if that makes sense.
>>29727322This is true. The risk management learned from games can help with trading. It's like poker or magic players who get into trading and excel. Understanding strategy, probability, and how to predict what other people are thinking are all important for trading.
>>29723135Kind of but not entirely. Besides I was always more /tg/ than /v/. I'd sooner be /vr/ than /v/ if I seriously returned to video games anyways.
>>29726258>Truth is daytrading is a waste of time compared to just getting into a good projectThe perfect strategy is to keep 80-90% of your holdings in a long-term hold, and then use the remaining funds to daytrade, and inject the profits into your long-term holds. It also helps to keep you engaged, which is what most people want instead of just looking at a couple of charts once a day.
>>29727558I pretty much play /vr/, fighting games, and one or two big new releases a year now>>29727578That's how I do it more or less. More fun that way too.
>>29723465I disagree. It's a very good game but I think Donkey Kong is the best game ever.
Used to love video games, hard to stay in them though as I'm starkly aware of the time waste they are in the back of my mind. Life feels fake enough these days as is, and you can grind IRL skills. /fit/maxxing in the gym, /biz/maxxing at the job or investing, I'm getting fluent at spanish to bed latinas. Yep. Went from playing vidya 24/7 to being addicted to making money. I've always had the problem that i cant focus or enjoy anything other than what's my main focus/interest in life. I hate it
>>29723608The problem is most kids grow up playing the wrong kinds of games. Look at something like Capitalism 2 and tell me it's not an awesome tool. This shit literally teaches you more about business in a couple days than years of university.
>>29723135yes and plastic toys too. I like reading books now especially penguin classics and critical editions. no need to study for a job when you've made it. i also want to get into mountain bike riding and kayaking and do more camping. video games are npc territory now. thanks söycücks
>>29723135I feel like I was more addicted to video games when I was wage slaving 40 hours a week. Now that all I really do is trade crypto 247 and do school shit I really dont feel like gaming as often. I think once I get a better career and/or one of my larger sacks of coins does a 50x then ill finally be able to take my mind of crypto and relax a bit more.
>I wish I would've played an instrument or didNo, you don't. You wish your parents would've forced you against your will to play one so you would have the skills now to impress the opposite sex. That's what you mean. If you don't have the burning desire now to pick up a guitar and learn to work it, you most definitely would not when you were a child with zero self control. You'd sit your fatass down with some friends with some mountain dew game fuel and play infection on sandtrap with your buddies on splitscreen till 5am because that's what sounded fun. Rather than completely abstaining from vidyas (because be honest they're fun as fuck)learn self control or make a schedule to devote time to learning new skills and not vidyaing.

>>29727322The way I look at it is I've become wealthy in one hundreds of different games. Can't think of one game where I didn't become wealthy. The key is to find exploits, find what works, and grind. Now it's time to put those principles to use and get wealthy in real life.
>>29728784based, this anon gets it
>>29728784That's exactly what I did. Shit's easy once you get the hang of it.
>>29724827Fuck I better start jerking it a bit more eh? Fucking perfect reply fren.
>>29723608Depends on what you're trading off to play them. I really can only be so productive in any given day and playing some games resets me to keep working. I wish I could take a productivity pill or something, but failing that I use games as a tool to mentally recuperate.
>>29729135Yeah, nobody is productive 24/7. Nothing wrong with taking some time to relax as long as you can manage your time.
>>29728784But to add to that, much like in life, once you "make it" in a game, it's usually no longer fun. Stardew Valley, for instance, is only fun when you are poor and hustling to make it. But once you've done that, it becomes boring.
>>29723135Nah, I didn't play games for that reason. Sounds like you played competitive shit like Dota.
>>29729243True, but in life there are endless goals. You can always start a business or learn a new skill if you're bored after making it.
>>29723608All you lads sound like you played games for the wrong reasons. I just liked them for immersion, art, stories, exploration, etc. Kinda like watching movies, etc.
>>29729186Yeah, wasting time actually improves creativity. It’s about finding the right balance between creativity and productivity
>>29725699This is disgusting.
>>29723608having fun is great and i honeslty liked the social aspect more. i think spending time in xbox live parties with people older than me matured me way quicker than my friends. that being said i dont go by "hours played" cause in reality thats my freetime, so i spent a lot of my developmental years playing video games all night and sleeping til 4...
>>29724141this is actually why im going to get back into gaming. im not the addicted time but online college doesnt kill enough time

one big downside is that as an adult, it's hard to find fun games anymore, either because my dopamine receptors are fried or there is just literally no fun games out at the moment
>>29729371>>29728784Very based
>>29723135I still play Guild Wars 2 sometimes, getting to be a 1%er there by playing the trading post while thousands of wagie players ran around between events was a good learning experience prior to my real life investing.
>>29728136Edutainment is a criminally underdeveloped sector. History wasn't a particularly interesting subject for me in high school, but games like the historical Total War games had me hooked and looking into ancient history for some time. Shenzhen I/O also got me a little bit into coding too.
>>29729435I enjoy games like that too. Sometimes I'm in the mood for something competitive that requires a lot of attention, and sometimes I prefer something I can get immersed in and just relax with.>>29729511How so? The level of mind games and prediction seen at top levels is incredible.
Yup. Avid video game player my entire life. Went nearly 40 weeks without playing video games once my classes were changed to at-home because I was trading all day.
>>29723135literally meI went from being a vidya addict to a stock addict, I’ve tried to go back to vidya and I thought while playing “this is boring I’d rather look for potential investments”. I felt like such a boomer.

>>29729825Fair enough, maybe give learning an instrument or a new language a go too. You can do all of them.
>>29729371True. I think of it like the honeymoon effect. When I first started earning six figs I felt unstoppable, like I had already made it. Today I don't feel nearly as wealthy. I used to be the same but then I realized I just needed to play games with close friends again. Single player games or games with strangers don't do it for me. At least with people I know we can just chat it up without even focusing on the game so much. Even if the game is trash it can be fun.
>>29730255It is sad, it's why I'm doing both.
>>29730099I agree with that. I think the process of learning a skill, any skill is good for people. Learning not to give up, to have the discipline to practice consistently, etc. Once you master one thing it becomes easier learning other skills too, because you can apply the same mindset. Miyamoto Musashi became a skilled painter on top of being a master swordsman.

>>29724049Women were the final nail in the vidya coffin for me. I ditched my friends to hang out with girls. Im glad I was able to get laid and didn't become an incel and I'm glad I learned early that lusting over women non-stop is annoying. Be confident in yourself and you'll find a good girlfriend. Women are a distraction and most will suck you dry. I know guys whose personality will 180 when women are around. A good friend of mine is like that. We will be having great conversation at a house party and then a girl he likes shows up and I don't talk to him for the rest of the night, not to mention he's out 100 dollars in cash to buy her uber, take her to get more drinks etc.. and at the end of the night he might get laid. Point is bros, all women are traps. What matters is family.

It's not difficult to lead a balanced life. If a hobby fulfills you, you're doing better than most people who are constantly angry and miserable.Blaming videogames for your lack of talents is just sad. All you need to do to get fit or learn a new language is get started.
>>29723135How can you find that satisfying when 99.8% of people won't beat a passively managed index fund over a full decade lmao. It's like grinding and MMO for 10 hours a day when you could have just left a bot to do it for you for the exact same payoff.
>>29726106You're wasting your time. Dump that exact money into Vanguard or something for the exact same (or almost certainly better because you're new and retarded) returns and then spend your free time working on something else that will generate you income.
>>29723135I think one of the most interesting things being in japan was seeing how diverse their arcade culture was. You would find any type of person in there playing games.
>>29731448>>29731579>just buy index funds and wait 50 years brored.dit is down the hall and to the left.
>>29731753I wish I could've spent more time at the arcades when I visited. Only got to spend like an hour at A-cho in Kyoto but it was awesome. Hopefully covid doesn't fuck the arcade business over too hard and I can visit again someday.
>>29729243True>>29730179Hobbies for people who don’t have time is usually a thing they wish they could do but couldn’t. So its a novelty for others. But when you make it, an hobby will keep your interest for maybe 3-6 months when you have all the time in the world to dedicate towards it. The novelty wears off.
>>29731754>just spend 12 hours a day busting your ass to barely match a passive index fund I dunno anon know I feel like most people could use that time better
>>29723135actually I lost interest in vidya when I learned about the cabal

American kids won’t be able to compete in the hypercompetive job market of 10 years from now. >>29725699Because no one will give a shit about Street Fighter in 10 years, or any other game. Games come and go and are forgotten constantly. Your skills become fucking worthless when this happens.
>>29733439Wrong. You still find people playing Super Street Fighter II Turbo after nearly 30 years, and fighting games will always exist. Skills carry over between fighting games, and even into other genres, so what you learn won't be useless even if the specific game you focused on isn't played in the future.
>>29723135You progressed from video games to gambling.

>>29723135Definitely OP. Was a gamer all my life(30 now). I used to live for the dopamine rush of getting a fire cape, whip drop at Abby demons or a pet drop. I need to concentrate more on making money any way, plenty of time to play vidya after I have some financial freedom. Then I can enjoy games without the looming stress and anxiety
JRPGfag here. I can't see myself ever dropping gaming.
>>29723135I was just thinking about this today man, i actually liked farming money/gold in most of the games i played and i feel like that's what kinda got me into investing in the first place. Doing it with real money feels even better
>>29723135I've made a lot of money from this bull run...not fuck you money, but enough to generate passive income which supports my neet lifestyle indefinitely. I don't enjoy vidya anymore, but I've never enjoyed anything else so I don't know what to do now. Every day I just scroll 4channel pointlessly, watch some anime and go to sleep. The thought of getting to this point was the only thing keeping me going, but everything is so boring and aimless now. I'm just going to slowly rot here until I melt into a puddle for some wagie to clean up.
>>29729532I’m on the flip side of this. I’m into multiplayer Minecraft and have to a of bros who are teenagers. Playing video games is a better use of time after you find good investments to stick to. Once you use 4chan past 2 years you just end up seeing the same things posted over and over again in slightly different ways. Compared to video games where you can experience whole new viewpoints and ideas.
