Good question. Nothing is stopping them, however by launching their project as a subnet & chain running on the existing official Avalanche platform they can offer rewards to the existing main net validators for also validating on their subnet.

When I use Pangolin, the gas fees are 0.14 (AVAX). When I use Uniswap, the gas fees are also around 0.14 (ETH). How does Avalanche solve the gas issue? Just by being a cheaper token than ETH?

hes bullshitting, the real answer is that the gas fee was manually set for testing. At the time, avax was much cheaper. Once apricot comes out with governance, people will vote to reduce fees. Keep in mind that fees actually are burned, so every transaction fee lowers the supply.
