ah yes, nothing makes me happy like listening to Janice bitch about how Jeff doesn't put the seat down after he's had a piss or how Mike doesn't reset the coffee machine after he's had his cup of beanwater.

>Sent to some shithole remote community to build a research center or something
>Bunked in a shithole camp with shithole anmenintities where we all have a roommate
>Roomed with the engineer that was "inspecting" the project, he would basically just get hung up on irrelevant details like screws being 1" too far apart and completely ignore actual issues, he had no idea how things were actually built at all
>Somehow found out how much money I was making out there (roughly $2500/week+13% bonus paid out every 3 months)
>Got super gigapissed because he was just getting a $70k/hr salary and no bonus or overtime because he had no union agreement
>Me and the guy that I primarily work with just write our own hours with next to no supervision, and our company doesn't care if we write more hours than we worked because were usually billed out hourly on government contracts (were just a small cog in a giant machine, but we do a really specific micro-trade of sorts that every commercial/industrial building needs)

It's very competitive to get good jobs and the top companies are dystopic in their culture and performance reviews. But the pay is good if you can handle the cognitive load and focus. And you are able to successfully bicker with autists over irrelevant details without wanting to kill yourself.

Teaching assistant isnt bad if you don't mind the shit pay. Basically just teach and play with kids without having to deal with parents or actually be a teacher

>> No.30435977

Software engineering is fine if you're working at a good team/company. It's incredible how fast it can go sour though, good teams are rare so if you see the warning signs it's better to just jump ship instead of try to fix it.
>>30431543
I don't have an issue with Jira, at the end of the day it's just a tool. The issue is with how project managers use the tool, and in most cases they create more problems than they solve. The best year of my professional life was when we did away with sprints/backlog grooming/etc and just picked up stuff we wanted to work on.
