Volvo did a study on one of their own models, the XC40, which has a petrol model and a pure electric model. They went from 'cradle to grave' with the cars in their study, and you would have to drive the electric car between 60,000 and 90,000 miles (the mileage depending on how your battery was recharged) before it started to become cleaner than the petrol car in total emissions.

So not only is he wrong, he is wrong for the next 6 to 9 years of ownership of his new electric car, and seeing how the average person keeps their car 4 years (I work in the auto industry for Subaru, we have all the data on average ownership industry wide), he will continue to be wrong forever, or until governments switch to nuclear, which they won't, because they want to tank western civilization and put you in the pods.

The energy grid in the US is a disster and most of the energy is not carbon neutral, it's largely reliant on natural gas. Couple that with the fact that the grid is so inefficient that 70% or it is lost to transportation and inefficiecies.

If solar / renewables were the main source of energy for the grid, it would be far more envirormentally friendly to run an EV.

The main issue is that both the Democrat and Republican cstrategies to energy policies are fucking stupid and don't work. Dems want to centralize everything which creates a convoluted, overgrown system that wastes energy and hardly works for anoyone, meanwhile the Republicans want everything in their states privatized to the point that dickhead energy corps who don't care about anything but profit margins can have everyone by the balls.

>Our environment
Ok listen up retard. I'm going to spell this out for you because I hate ecofaggots so much it's unreal.
You think EVs are good for the environment which means you lack any ability to think critically. You're the type of person who believes everything they say on TV. You are a mindless consumer.
Batteries require lithium to work and at our current demand this means 14 million tons of the metal is mined out of Australia and China. These mining vehicles use diesel-powered engines which produce No2. The lithium then has to be refined. Lithium refineries are terrible for the environment, use a huge amount of potable water and have been found to seep into groundwater reservoirs. But hey, at least these refineries are in 3rd world shitholes right? Well they're opening Lithium refineries in North America which means our ground water is going to be even more fucked than it is from agricultural runoff. Overseas battery production is has a massive carbon footprint, delivering raw materials to a factory from all corners of the world. By the time it's reached your EV, your battery alone has negatively impacted the Earth in many irreversible ways.
The life span of a car battery is rougly 6 years if you live in California. If you live anywhere that it gets snow, the life of this battery drops to almost half that. If you live somewhere hot you have to pray the engineers and assembly plant installed the thermal regulation system properly or it will spontaneously combust. After the battery's anode's and cathodes are worn out from charging cycles, it becomes e-waste. You can not recycle batteries. These batteries will end up in landfills. There will be billions of these things in piles exposed to the elements. How exactly are you saving the planet you stupid fucking retard? Your opinion about the environment is completely irrelevant.

Politicians like EV's because they're simple to understand. The disturbing part is that marine impact assessments are usually always ignored. If you can't see it, it doesn't exist right? Ships burn toxic bunker fuel on trans ocean routes and switch to clean burning diesel fuel when they enter into national waterways. But hey, you're an environmentalist. If you can't see it I guess it's not threatening! Here's another fact: asphalt has the ability to radiate a significant amount of heat. During peak summer months, road pavement can increase the ambient temperature by up to 5 degrees. The materials in asphalt also off gas carcinogenic material when repeatedly heated in the hottest part of the year. If we simply shaded roadways we would be able to significantly reduce the amount of heat radiating in densely paved areas. But no. It's the EV's that are what we need to focus on. Forget the fact that the US military's annual CO2 impact is greater than most countries. Fuck environmentalists and fuck you. You are so fucking stupid it's unbelievable.

Aren't most European cities fairly dense and walkable with developed mass transportation infrastructure though?

In the American West here, everything sprawls out for miles and miles and the further west you go, the sparser it gets with fewer options for alternate transportation until you hit the coast.

We all have cars because they're basically required to live and function day to day over here, but in recent years it's been improving.

>> No.49288782

and forget cities, you have entire countries on your end that are significantly smaller and more dense that I think could compare to some of our larger metropolitan hubs. You might be surprised at how far electric vehicles have come both use-wise and price-wise. It can be cheaper to use electric, though a difficult choice. A big thing is that they tax the shit out of gas cars while evs get all sorts of tax breaks.

Living in europe, the only thing I have against electric vehicles is they might be the final straw for the old manual/stick cars which are still by far the majority here. Unfortunately as I understand it EVs don't really have gears like that, there's no manual. They might be able to simulate manual for a certain niche but it wouldn't make sense technically and wouldn't be the same.

Economy doesn't give a fuck about your health. It's simple as that. People like you believed in solar roadways you fucking retard. Blacktop is literally 100% recyclable yet you idiots wanted to put electric circuits in the road. Would be funny to see Ethiopians drilling holes in the highways in order to extract microchips, lol.

>do you fucking understand how much pollution is created mining out, shipping, and building the fucking batteries for your electric car
The production energy and pollution of a car is negligible compared to the lifetime operation of it. Electric cars create about twice the impact during production, but are 1/3rd as energy intense operationally.
And solar is based you dumbass. A handful of panels in your yard can run a house and slowly charge a car. You can throw off two huge globalhomo shackles with them. Electricity and fuel.

there's not enough road for all of us, and if you can't afford a new $80k car then you simply aren't worth enough to society to be on them.
