Renewables are still better than most fossil fuels because they don't release into the atmosphere. Anyone telling you otherwise is a paid oil shill.
Besides, there's more to renewable energy than just solar panels and wind turbines.
Regardless, why would you not want to be in control of your own energy supply? You might even get subsidized for it which is a net benefit.
Either way the renewable discussion doesn't belong in this thread and it's retarded you brought it up here. Especially when precious metals are used for most renewables.

not quite true, we know where millions of ounces of silver are sitting right now, there are a dozen silver belts sitting around with little exploration going on. The issue is right now its not economically viable to bring these old abandoned projects to market, how long this remains the case is up for debate as now copper mining is starting to become more of a challange, silver as a by product of copper production will decrease.

There are still a number of primary operating silver mines in North America too, their just far smaller and less discussed than the super pit style operations.

/smg/ is retarded, I figured out something important. SOFR futures are what banks/hedge funds use to hedge the risk of repo rates changing when they use the treasuries/cash for collateral. If you enter into a 3 month contract selling a bond future, and expect to use overnight rates to finance this, you will need to hedge 3 months of SOFR rates, so you buy SOFR futures, one for each repo operation that expires on each day.

Knowing this, we can determine the volume on the SOFR contracts can tell us how long market participants expect to be rolling these repo transactions for. Because repo is net negative, the fed is selling bonds overnight not buying, that means market participants need to hedge by buying SOFR contracts. Right now volume is spiking on the three month contract hard, meaning banks expect to be rolling these RRP’s for at least 3 months.

>> No.49300059

>>49299431
So the takeaway here is that SOFR can be used to forecast how long a market trend could last?

Petrus and Vermilion already have nice exposure to natgas, most of Petrus' energy mix is natgas and Vermilion gets about 40% of their funds flow from natgas. Maybe check out Trillion or Chariot if you want more natgas exposure though. For uranium, check out Denison and Nexgen.

You would have a point if aliens dropped off unlimited solar panels to us for free, but here in reality every wind turbine, battery, and solar panel requires an immense amount of mining, extremely dirty Chinese manufacturing, and carbon burning global shipping and then landfill storage.
Then the power grid needs to build out 80% backup of all renewable energy sources with natural gas and coal because clouds exist and wind doesn't always blow so you save nothing.

During this current inflationary/stagflationary situation commodities do relatively well. Energy is especially performing well right now while materials aren't doing as well. Not a commodities expert but everything still remains the same. The small miners like UUUU are just not cash flow positive so they got hammered in the downturn and will probably drop again if the market has another leg down.

The spot price of uranium is down due to recession fears, but it'll still need to go back up to fill the supply deficit.

I bought uranium miners over a year ago and didn't buy anymore since. I've just bought some more on each of my positions. So I'd used this opportunity to average down on your uranium exposure.

Some industry owns mines or bargains with them directly, sure. Who is saying that mines will be nationalized besides goofball bix weir?

I think SOME mines COULD be nationalized, for example in south america. But Id rather take my chances in countries that have never really done that kind of thing before. If you really think nationalization could happen, say in US or Canada, wouldn't you see governments flirting with the idea first? It's not like you'd just wake up one day and BAM, everything is gone. You'd have some time to get out, and these governments wouldn't begin talking about seizing mines until after PMs have made significant moves upwards.

Yeah it's extremely unlikely for any mine, especially precious metal mines, being nationalized in the US, Canada or Australia for a very long time. Even in countries like Brazil, Chile or Mexico, nationalization of precious metal mines in the next 10-20 years is probably very low, but there is significant risk of rising royalties/taxes and problems getting new permits or existing ones renewed. there will be a price decoupling between investment silver and industrial silver as all silver becomes industrial silver and investment silver becomes too rare to sell.

at that point the comex and investors will convert entirely to derivatives and you will no longer be able to buy physical silver. Industry will own all of it as soon as it's produced. The price will not change, investors simply won't have access to real silver anymore.

They have run a lot but many of us believe they still have a long way to go. $150 Oil seems an inevitability and some consider it a low target.

PMs are inevitable IMO but they are usually the last to move in a commodity cycle. I have my positions but I don't think I'll be adding much to them until I start rotating profits from my energy investments but I'm unsure when that will be. I'm currently 1/3 PMS 1/3 Oil/Gas and 1/3 Uranium (from my initials) and there are still other commodities I'd like to be in but I don't want to spread myself any more thin.
Some people here are all in on PMs but personally I think that's ignoring a lot of other good trains to be on. I've already got my seat on the PM train which I think is wise as who knows when things will pop in clown market, but everyone will tell you different and I'm by no means an expert so take everything I say with a pinch of (Atlas) salt.

Lurk moar and ask more questions and take the time to DYODD as there's (probably) no major hurry and you don't want to be in any of these sectors/companies without knowing what you're doing or you'll probably end up leaving too early or staying too late but that's true of any investment that isn't a straight gamble I suppose.

Just increased by UUUU holdings about 40%.
Due to this company being a bit of a meme or at least having the reddit fags behind it, I think it has great potential during the run.
I'll buy more Encore energy and Denison later this month.

Personally I don't much care about PMs yet, because they'll run towards the end of the cycle when or if the dollar gets fucked and who knows when that'll be.
I'd much rather play the Uranium and oil markets first and then move money to run in PMs, because it's entirely possible we don't see metals move in any considerable amounts when other sectors skyrocket.

My personal plays are
WMT (via work)
HCMLY (play on cement/sand, not fracking sand)
WEAT/CORN calls for mid winter
GUNR for natural resources exposure
UUUU for uranium and rees (selling CCs on swing)

Currently playing GILD and CMRX for the pox but those are minor. Horizons etfs are not bad I like HEU.TO and HEE.TO but have no positions. Would probably recommend GUNR for broad comm exposure, its been quietly performing (up 8% ytd and no hard swings). Comms should boom in 2-3 years. Sand is a long term play.

Remember gold is up significantly since 2019. You are probably going to be dissapointed though if you believe in this parabolic rise. Gold has done reasonably well and will continue to do so, I think it will beat inflation for quite some time which will mean nice profit margin for miners. But no hyperinflation is very unlikely (any time soon at least).
Gold will probably continue to move sideways in the next few months as the fed continue to keep a super hawkish tone but then as the economy comes crashing down and inflation comes down some we could easily start to see the fed focus switch from inflation being mandate #1 to the economy being #1 and then gold could quickly move past $2000 again, maybe way past.

But sure you can call it a banana republic, I'm not fan of the great zogged satan either, but there are still a lot of very smart people in the elite that has a lot to lose and they still control institutions such as the fed to a large degree. The country is going to hell but I simply don't see hyperinflation anytime soon, also because it's the worlds reserve currency. Investors just don't have many other places to go so you are not just going to see huge outflows all of the sudden tanking the currency. Not until social unrest reaches much higher highs.

i guess the difference between you and i is that i don't believe the metrics and data that the government is telling me about anything. i simply dont believe that inflation is what they say it is, nor do i believe the employment data to reflect reality at all. i think we will start to see the middle stages of hyperinflation begin late next year or in 2024. terminal hyperinflation may not be until 2025. my worry, though, is that they'll find a way to keep precious metals prices suppressed through all of this
