The greatest multiplayer game of all time. Anyone who disagrees is wrong. Staying up until the early hours on a weekend playing 4v4 team slayer with friends on Lockout, T-bagging shitters and calling people faggots and n*ggers in pregame lobbies? Best days of my life.

I had to play Halo CE on PC only growing up, and for some reason in multiplayer everyone was the same color, and like 60% of the multiplayer games were modded and full of bots, so you had things like tanks flying through the air and super jumping out of the map, etc.

Inviting a friend from school over to my house only to shittalk other people via text on Halo CE on the PC together is probably my favorite video game memory.

Favorite Halo: CE mission?
For me, it's the silent cartographer. I'll never forget the feeling being 12 years old and getting dropped off on the beach with the marines and getting the whole island to explore in whatever order you wanted. I would say the second mission "Halo" is a close second. The first time I saw the forerunner structures it made me go wtf.jpg and then entering in the tunnels and getting lost. Then getting to rescue marines in whatever order you wanted in such an open space. It was awesome.

I can't comment on multiplayer for Reach, because I played it far too late for that, but I felt the campaign was less gripping or interesting than in Halo CE - Halo 3. The levels just started to feel more generic in a way. Even though I know they were experimenting with anti-gravity and the level where you fight in space. Those were cool, but overall I prefer playing as Master Chief.

I'm 28 now and didn't have that one growing up but I play the MCC sometimes now. I played through Halo 4 and Infinite though and both were terrible, especially Infinite's campaign. I don't bother with multiplayer anymore, for any of them. But I still have the Halo CE multiplayer maps all memorized of course..

The last 2 levels of 4 were the worst in the entire series, but Halo Infinite is so incredibly boring it's almost worse. It feels like doing the exact same mission 200 times with almost no music and you get to pick whatever weapons you want every time so there's 0 challenge on any mode. I don't know what they were thinking...

within the first 20 minutes of gameplay you're basically introduced to every single weapon and enemy
on a scale of 1-10 it's a solid 1 in terms of crafting a well made enjoyable game

I did the open world shit while bored in work-from-home zoom meetings and even then it was awful.

Which is weird, because they basically already have fantastic gameplay handed to them on a platter: Just copy Halo. So that means all they needed to do was design interesting levels. But they somehow couldn't do that and made every single level look exactly the same. It's baffling how bad they messed up something that's pretty simple.

>> No.49799918

Halo 3 had the best custom games community and aesthetic variety in Forge. Reach mainly suffered due to the fact that the crosshair was the same color as the 1 (admittedly massive) forge map.

Not only did Halo 2 have perfectly executed multiplayer, but literally everyone you knew (as a 9th/10th grader) signed up for Xbox Live to play it. This was before the gaming market was totally diluted and fragmented.

I still have vivid memories of hearing people talk for the first time back in 2004 as a 13 year old kid. My day had just gotten broadband after using dial up and we got Xbox Live. I was playing on Ivory Tower and some American just started talking on my team.

I was honestly so blown away at the time it was unreal that I was playing games with people from across the world, instead of just split screen with my friends.

Truly a unique experience at the time. Plus Halo 2 had amazing matchmaking and custom games.
