5.4 3v loves popping spark plugs and ford can't build a transmission to save its life, bad valvebodies/torque converters galore. timing chains too on anything past 120k miles

anything pre-alum era will rot out like a toyota but the toyota will at least give you 2-300,000 miles of service with just oil changes and a timing belt/water pump job every 100k

the interiors are also genuinely awful, look at a 15 y/o f150 platinum compared to a tundra or even a titan, holy shit. it wasn't until the ecoboost trucks came out in 2014-15 that ford put any effort into building a pickup, and at this point its not a good idea to buy a 10 y/o ecoboost unless you want to replace turbos/wastegates, cam phasers, and water pumps that dump all the coolant into the oil

unironically buy a titan and have a better truck if you want something used, they're actually pretty sturdy other than the rear axle seals and cracked exhaust manifolds
