I was wondering, which companies do you think will survive the next 10-20 years while maintaining current earnings levels?

Factors that I have in my mind:
- demographic crisis in US / EU leading to not only lower velocity of money, but also pension funds' collapse probably
- more and more jobs low-skilled jobs being automated
- IQ of average US / EU citizen dropping
- megacorps + wealthy families increasingly accumulating money while middle class is getting demolished

At this point I'm starting to wonder if even companies like KO have any future growth in them. And withot it or with decline in growth, valuation of stocks like that could go down.
Probably emerging markets could be a play, since they are lagging behind western world with growth cycle. Although new advanced spread very quickly nowadays so I don't know.

Literally none of them. The US and EU economies have been running on nothing but government/central bank stimulus for about 20 years, and now they're finally out of runway because of inflation/debt levels. During that time they also offshored all of our domestic manufacturing (read: the only part of the economy that matters) to China. It's fucking over. Not only do we have no domestic manufacturing anymore, but we also have higher debt to GDP than WWII. China realizes this and now they're beginning to challenge us militarily since they know we have no way to respond without causing hyperinflation.

>> No.53579248

Yeah debt is huge concern too. But I think it's important to remember how much value did USD lose in those last few decades. This kinda offsets the stimulus. People are basically paying for it with a hidden tax called inflation. Still it's a also one of the concerns I have, but I don't have enough knowledge to assess this risk.

China is not that strong as it looks since they were pumping their GDP too. Their ally is now at war with west. Their Belt and Road Initiative is having problems because hosting nations are unhappy with being scammed by chinks on multiple levels (who could've predicted that). Western producers are withdrawing production and moving it to cheaper, developing countries, which puts China at a risk of falling into Middle Income Trap.
This also reminds me that with globalization taking a 180 degrees turn, megacorps from USA could see a decline in their earnings just because of increased competition from foreign countries.

by the way. to answer your actual question. I think CPB is a strong choice *because* it is 100% US. I think this controlled demolition of the USD we are about to go through, combined with companies worldwide finally realizing doing business in Ch*na is a bad idea, will actually probably be good for the USA and US-aligned 3rd world. I think we may even get some population growth out of it in the USA if Gen Z can figure out how to have sex. But, a lot of ""US"" stocks do business in a bunch of places including the commie's home turf and will be BTFO when they have to decouple. So really, any strong company with a non-tech product and minimal non-US income would be my pick for longevity.

You're completely missing the point of investing in dividend paying stocks. The idea is that you don't have to time anything and still get paid. If after 20 years of holding a stock it goes down to original price, like Intcel for example, you will still be up thanks to dividends.
It's basically less risky way of investing. If you are good at trading, then well, good for you.

Yeah I wonder what he is referencing in his post.

"rebalancing" and his remark regarding outperforming are quite vague. Rebalancing how? What method? Is this applicable in the current market conditions (we could stagnate for the next decade due to crisis)? What timeframe was used for comparison (could be cherry-picked to prove a point)? What type of dividend paying stocks were used?

He kinda uses phrases typical to a newbie investor:
> just buy low sell higher
> then just buy again when it gets lower
Completely ignores amount of knowledge and luck needed to properly predict market trends, cycles and performance of a given stock.

>> No.53579830

Dividend stocks are misunderstood. Think of them as a life long pension. The money never stops coming. V.S stocks, once you sell, that money gained will only last so long till its gone. Then what? That's not to say growth stocks (401ks,etc to) are bad. But nothing says you have to limit yourself to just a single asset type either. You can also pass along those divvy stocks, etc to your heirs and set them up for a nice life after your gone. V.S just giving them a bag of money and saying "here make it last" You were an 18 year old once. What did you do with any cash you had? You blew it on dumb shat. of course you will cope by saying it is dated research, but even if we look at dividend paying stocks from a mathematical standpoint, we can see that they come out behind.

leys say you own 10,000 shares in 2 companys. company a pays a dividend and company b does not. both companies have a beginning book value of $10/share. lets assume that both companies are the same size, have the same profitability, same sentiment, are basically exactly the same except 1 pays a dividend and 1 doesnt. now after 1 quater, both companies earned $2 per share.

company a pays a $1/share dividend. you own 10,000 shares, and receive $10,000 in dividends, however your shares are now only worth $11 each. the company had to pay $1 out of the $2 in earnings. your portfolio now consists of $110,000 in stock and $10,000 - taxes in cash.

company b doesnt pay a dividend. you own 10,000 shares, but now their increase of $2 goes fully into the shares, and your portfolio is now worth $120,000. i could just sell shares to gain my own "dividend"

when a company pays out a dividend the value of the companys (its market cap) falls by the amount of the dividend. and when you are selling off in a down market, it is the mathematical eqivialnt of selling low. go ahead and continue arguing with logic all you want. go ahead and keep bagholding dividends retard.

nice gaslighting. Yep research is from 1960, hardly applicable in current market conditions.

Holy fuck I found a rabbit hole of some sort I think

An ISDA agreement is considered a transaction legally, this puts it legally under the umbrella of a Commercial agreement. The way that commercial agreements are settled internationally and domestically is through arbitration rather than litigation generally. This arbitration is PRIVATE, it is a closed court proceeding that is settled privately between the parties involved. ISDA requires you to agree to arbitration clauses generally in their agreements. The arbitrator that ISDA recommends for their standard agreements is P.R.I.M.E, a Netherlands based arbitrator with A HEAVY fucking list of members

https://primefinancedisputes.org/page/who-we-are

Guess who the FUCK is on this list except Ida Levine, former Chief investments officer for JP Morgan. If you were browsing earlier today, I posted another article about Ida Levine, the coincidence is mind blowing, anyway in 2012 Ida Levine oversaw a 200 billion dollar rouge credit trading element of JPM, this department lied to federal regulators about their exposure and positioning in credit default swaps and hiding 6 billion in losses, debatably capturing the agency, this was for the commercial bank JPM by the way these funds were not to be taking long positions.

Fucking secret courts in the Netherlands headed by former bankers who regulatory captured US agencies. In-fucking-sane

YMMV on how important you consider all of these, but at a minimum they're leaders in their industry and in cases like CVS, Wendy's, PepsiCo, and Kellogg are consumer staples that would give insight into general consumer spending when factoring inflation into the mix. Royal Caribbean/Disney/MGM/Expedia/Hilton would give insight into how travel is faring (specifically over the holiday season). BP will probably beat given how Shell had record profits last week. Just a lot of interesting narratives in general.
