The javascript has been hacked and now all LINK nodes are being affected, meaning they will go offline one by one.

But here's the real trick; every node that goes offline first has to be validated by other nodes, Thus the first node won't go offline until EVERY SINGLE NODE has verified it actually has gone offline

LINK will be in an infinite javascript loop. Maybe if you're a programmer you will recognize FOR and WHILE loops. Well.. This is a FOR loop that NEVER ends.

The price will TANK to at least 100 satoshi. Maybe even lower when the nodes are actually verified being offline.

Sergey is now busy setting up extra nodes to undo this process. Called contra-hacking. He has injected some GO-language code, pseudo-offline code, into the ChainLink network.

This means nodes will appear the be online, while they are struggling to go offline, but in the meantime they cant because it isn't verified yet. Neat trick if you ask me, but it wont last long before the other nodes will know what's really going on.

all of my this, fellow redditor
when sergey gets to preaching and presenting I just ponder all of the possibilites that might come from the products he's creating. for example I sat in my bed the other night and thought about how in a couple short decades chainlink is going to be integrated into the very fabric of space and time and it literally just blows my mind to know that I can buy these cubes for the low low price of $7.21 right now. it's pretty crazy isn't it? the whole everything and how much stuff they are building, I can't wait to see it materialize, as soon as it's ready of course!

I am not an expert, but the way I see it is we do not have enough devs in web3 building high quality applications
We can attract more devs by allowing them to do things in languages they already understand, i.e. JavaScript.
Basically, there is a huge pot of money and notoriety for devs that can build interesting web3 apps. Chainlink continues to make the odds that it will be used in every single interesting application higher and higher.

Just because something is compatible with web 2.0 it doesn't mean it is magically under the "DECO" umbrella. DECO is a way to pull web 2.0 information onto a blockchain without revealing the sensitive info. What is shown in this thread is simply generalized computation. It's more similar to Chainlink Automation than DECO, but really it's just a separate product. You ask for it to compute something and it gives you the result in a decentralized way. I don't know why people need to cram DECO into everything where it doesn't belong.

Actually this the reason why I even bought chainlink in the first place, imagine trusting this function to be accurate enough to be inside an immutable contract to pay out 100k based on the result:

const winner2024 = chainlink.getWinner2024();

Say Chainlink runs this on thousands of computers:

function getWinner2024() {
const requests = await Promise.all([
winner2024GoodRequestCnn,
winner2024GoodRequestMsnbc,
winner2024GoodRequestFox,
winner2024GoodRequestAssociatedPress,
winner2024RequestPreviouslyGoodNowCompromisedEndpoint,
]);

return getConsensusWinner(requests);
}

By having multiple sources on thousands on computers, you can be confident enough to execute an immutable 100k bet on ethereum.

The idea is that both data sources AND requestors can be compromised. Multiple sources AND multiple requestors is the closest thing to a 100% accurate response as u can get on any arbitrary API.

The deco aspect is the line where they discuss accessing private api keys without exposing the key to the don. The smpc aspect is ocr. A lot of what chainlink has done isn’t exactly original. It’s more that they’re porting existing functions into a decentralized scheme, thereby securely adding those functions to the blockchain as a whole. Which is more difficult than it sounds since there are a whole array of security threats in a decentralized environment that either don’t apply to current web or haven’t even been anticipated yet.

DECO has nothing to do with this. Functions is streamlining pulling API data to put on the blockchain. DECO is allowing you to onboard and USE sensitive data on the blockchain without broadcasting the info for everyone to see.

I.e., Functions streamlines sending API data regarding election results for some election betting contract, but you're not going to use Functions by itself to produce your bank account data to verify you have the financial clout (have demonstrated your bank account has a minimum balance and has received deposits consistently over X period of time) to pay back an undercollateralized loans.

DECO will obviously connect to this, but this is unrelated to DECO otherwise.

Imagine actually thinking this is a bagholder.

This is the state of FUD in 2023. So afraid of legitimate discussion surrounding Chainlink and everything that is confirmed in the pipeline paid and organized FUD has to resort to spamming nigger in order to deter new/normal people finding /biz who are just joining the thread while legit replies are slid to the middle where they are harder to find.

Its intentional and for the purpose I said above. This has been done in the last 2 days in 6 different pro-LINK threads where most shills were ignored and constructive discussion was had.

At this point I would advise you to sell any remaining chainlink ticker link you might have lying around, no matter how little or insignificant.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about ChainLink, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my crypto economics class, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret pump and dumps on BitBean, and I have over 300% confirmed gains. I am trained in gorilla fudding and I’m the top Link bagholder on etherscan. You are nothing to ChainLink but just another shitcoin. I will wipe your tokens the fuck out with losses the likes of which has never been seen before in these markets, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit about Linkies over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of discord Pajeets and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, no-linker. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your wallet. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can hack your private keys in over seven hundred ways. Not only am I extensively trained in memetics, but I have access to the entire hashpower of the blockchain and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little street shitter. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn brainlet. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

that's an interesting question actually
with a standard don it would be up to to the contract architects to decide the level of collateral required from the node operators
here we also have a don providing the data, presumably a set of node operators chosen by chainlink. presumably they would put in place collateral requirements and punish for downtime
you could of course have other dons set up with their own parameters for such data requests
for maximum security you could even layer these different dons
so you'd have dons reaching out to multiple api providers as a base but then other dons checking all this data
that would be some time off of course
so yeah basically too early to tell but thanks for the great question and making me think

Optional dramatic scalability if you trust AWS, which is something most companies do anyway.
It lets you tie the old and new world together within one network. Maintaining backwards compatibility is NOT optional. You have to do it, and Chainlink is one of the only projects with a foot firmly planted on both sides.

This is the most basic level LINK question. The data can be manipulated from a single API. Using Chainlink's decentralized oracle network ensures that bad actors can't lie about the data.

Most data about certain things can be pulled from multiple APIs like interest rates on housing for instance.

You need a mechanism to reliably connect APIs to blockchains without a single point of failure. decentralized oracles do this. And Chainlink is a master of it.

What Chainlink Functions does is streamline the process as previously you needed to connect to a specific chainlink node, perhaps coordinate to make sure their node is up and connected to X blockchain network before you could connect your API of choice to them to deliver data to your contract. Now? your Solidity contract can send Javascript code for your API directly to the Chainlink network to process making smartcontract development with APIs 10000x easier.

Read over the thread but basically it's a nothing burger for investors but a HUGE QoL upgrade for developers.
