Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized P2P privacy cryptocurrency!

Monero is secure, low-fee, and fungible, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- In other words, the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with transactions being visible only by a user willingly providing a view key.

Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of current popular cryptocurrencies. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of transactions increases. Further, the mining network algorithm RandomX establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier to entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward gradually approached 0.6 XMR in June 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a MoneroChad will be with you shortly.

START MINING IN P2POOL
>START MINING IN P2POOL
START MINING IN P2POOL
>START MINING IN P2POOL

P2Pool combines the advantages of pool and solo mining; you still fully control your Monero node and what it mines, but you get frequent payouts like on a regular pool.

P2Pool has no central server that can be shut down/blocked because it uses a separate blockchain to merge mine with Monero. There's no pool admin that can control what your hashrate is used for or decide who can mine on the pool and who can't. It's permissionless!

Decentralized pool mining (P2Pool) is pretty much the ultimate way to secure a PoW coin against 51% attacks. Once P2Pool reaches & maintains 51%+ of the total network hashrate, Monero will be essentially invulnerable to such attacks.

Although many inexperienced miners think that bigger pools give better profits, this is absolutely NOT the case. Your profits in the long run depend ONLY on your hashrate, NOT on the pool's hashrate.

>YOU CAN NOW MINE IN P2POOL FASTER & EASIER THAN EVER BEFORE WITH THE GUPAX GUI. USES TRUSTED REMOTE NODES BY DEFAULT!!!!

1. Download the *bundled* version of Gupax for your OS here: https://gupax.io/downloads/
2. Extract somewhere (Desktop, Documents, etc)
3. Launch Gupax
4. Input your Monero address in the [P2Pool] tab. USE A SEPARATE MINING-ONLY WALLET!
5. Select a Community Monero Node that you trust, although you can and should run your own node if possible.
6. Start P2Pool
7. Start XMRig

VIDEO GUIDE: https://gupax.io/guide/

You are now mining to your own instance of P2Pool, welcome to the world of decentralized peer-to-peer mining!

>NOTE THAT DUE TO BOTNET SHENANIGANS XMRIG IS AUTO-FLAGGED AS MALWARE BY MOST ANTI-VIRUSES, SO DON'T FREAK OUT!!!

START RUNNING AN I2P NODE
>START RUNNING AN I2P NODE
START RUNNING AN I2P NODE
>START RUNNING AN I2P NODE

>What is I2P?

I2P is an anonymized P2P overlay network akin to the Tor network but with several key advantages over it. I2P is now replacing Tor as the go-to darknet and will play a pivotal role in growing the Monerocentric economy.

>Why should I care? Why should I run a node?

Increasing shadow economy adoption and the proliferation of an XMR-only standard are what guarantee that XMR will have a floor and won't also crash to zero when the Crypto Casino finally implodes. XMR's long-term outlook is therefore *strongly* correlated with the darknet, you may have already noticed how the number of TXs begins to drop whenever the glowies attack & cripple the Tor network, which underscores just how critical it is that the darknet wins this war against the State. Make no mistake: if the darknet is allowed to die XMR will take a devastating hit as well.

So by running an I2P node you are helping to make the network Monero thrives in that much more robust while also enraging glowies in the process. Win-win!

>OK, but how difficult is it? Do I have to store GBs worth of data like when running an XMR node?

It is literally as easy as installing an Android app and no, there are no storage requirements, the node only consumes some bandwidth.

>Cool, I'm sold. What do?

If you have no interest in browsing the darknet yourself then the simplest solution is to install & run the I2Pd Android app on any compatible (Android 4.1+) device, ideally a TV box since they don't require recharging and are permanently online. But any old phone or tablet is fine too. Make sure you activate "start on boot" in the settings.

https://github.com/PurpleI2P/i2pd-android/releases/latest

Otherwise just install the appropriate desktop client and leave it running.

https://github.com/PurpleI2P/i2pd/releases/latest

The console is accessed via http://127.0.0.1:7070/ or the menu in Android.

>No tail emission = Bitcoin is fucked

Right now, at the current hashrate, miners break even on energy expenses at a BTC price of $22K. Post 2024 halving, that break even point, at the current hashrate, goes up to $44K. If BTC does not go to $44K, miners will be unprofitable and hashrate will have to drop (miners going out of business) to reduce the cost of securing the network, also reducing the security.

If you know anything about the power of 2, you already know that things get very big, very fast. If we’re 3 halvings into 32 total halvings, then the estimated break even point for miners at current hashrate going into the last halving would be:

$22,000 * (2^27) = $2,952,790,016,000 per BTC

$2,952,790,016,000 per BTC * 21 Million total Bitcoin = $62,008,590,336,000,000,000 BTC Market Cap

The block rewards shrink so fast that after enough halvings Bitcoin would eventually require a $2.95 trillion price per Bitcoin and a $62 quintillion market cap to sustain the current cost of $7.15 billion/year.

Even if these numbers were somehow realistic, can you imagine securing a $62 quintillion market cap on only $7.15 billion/year of hashrate? LOL.

And that’s assuming energy costs do not increase at all over the next 120 years, which they will.

So basically BTC mining will eventually become so unprofitable the hashrate (network security) will shrivel up UNLESS it is subsidized by BTC transaction fees.

This is the one thing Zcash does right, almost.
Monero appreciators should make an effort to on-board lots of african AMERICANS, not african africans. The former group is sacred and if they adopt Monero on a large scale, Monero becomes politically untouchable. Sure, for a time there would be attempts from the media to paint Monero as a tool of white oppression, but it would be in vain.

So, FireBunnyUSA (darknet vendor) has been busted.

>D.A. Bragg Announces Takedown of Dark Web Cryptocurrency Drug Trafficking Ring That Laundered $7.2 Million

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the indictment of NAN WU, 35, and four accomplices for operating a dark web marketplace that shipped more than 10,000 packages of cocaine, MDMA, Ketamine and other substances to customers in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. As alleged, WU; PENG PENG TANG, 30; BOWEN CHEN, 38; and ZIXIANG LIN, 22; together operated the dark web vendor “FireBunnyUSA,” and laundered $7.2 million, including over $3.1 million in proceeds, through cryptocurrency exchanges. They were assisted by KATIE MONTGOMERY, a United States Postal Service employee, who provided advice about importing drugs into the United States and checked on the status of packages.

Of note: these geniuses were apparently also accepting Monero and then "laundering" it by converting it to BTC and cashing out on KYC exchanges! Pic related.

Never going to happen.
People need to get this copium out of their heads already. THERE WONT BE MASSIVE ADOPTION.
What will happen is one day some guy with lots of nono money and more than 90iq will read one of the many many articles about btc money getting busted and will say geez if only there was something like bitcoin but I don't fancy the idea of getting my ass raped in prison.
And MAYBE some way they stumble onto xmr.
Then they can buy the whole dex order book assuming something like that exists by then.

lol moonfag logic, they do if they need strategic reserves of said asset for doing business. For example, the organized crime syndicates that need to have millions worth of XMR on hand in order to make regular purchases of cocaine for distribution.

Also valid is holding XMR simply to have alternative cash to spend once CBDCs are rolled out and paper fiat is deep six'd.

>No one holds a large quantity of an asset, if he wasn't believing in future gains.
This is what "in for the tech" means by the way, at least for a project like monero.
"In for the tech" can easily be translated in "I don't care about short term price movements because the tech (a private digital currency) is just too good so at some point in time it will greatly appreciate in value and I'll be able to use it (not sell it for fiat) to buy more real life stuff directly."
Monero for being a currency can absolutely be used as a "savings asset" where you store money for future needs. Some people might not care about short term price fluctuations because it's may be more important to have this money on an asset that is truly untraceable and impossible to confiscate (monero).
There are millions of use cases of people having a need to hide money. You can hide money digitally with monero in ways that were never possible before.
>Kid lives with abusive parents and start saving money in monero to move away without having parents to rob his money
>A couple go through divorce and instead of having 50% of your net worth transferred to the parasite you have assets hidden in monero that are untouchable
>Due to fear of a big war unrest settles in your country. Government might start freezing people's bank accounts and limiting how much money they can access. You decide to move to another country or continent and you can easily bring monero with you on a USB stick or piece of paper without fear of it being traced back.
I honestly think that people who can't see the many use cases for a currency like monero must be the most over-protected and naive human beings on this planet. There are many reasons to hold monero in varying quantities.

Probably buying gold coins with crypto and then selling for cash. Most crypto-friendly bullion dealers can't or won't accept Monero so your best bet is to use Trocador as an intermediary:

>You send Trocador XMR
>Trocador sends an equivalent amount of BTC or whatever to the specified payment address.
>Coins get delivered
>You cash out anonymously

Just make sure to rotate the dealers you buy from, a different one each time.

Ok i wonder in the long term how is the circular economy going to work, basically i mean in the long term in the individual level people are fucked.

What i mean by this and with iso 202022 it will be imposible for normal business to do business with crypto or at least monero, sure the dark markets can thrive but basically we will live in a world by the fact alone that you are using monero might make you a target, because i mean if you are just someone that wants to integrate monero and you do it off the book the goverment will know your business has monero, basically the all seeing eye of goverments makes it imposible for crypto to become a new economic system, maybe on an individual level if you peer with diferent people but at some point if you are an individual that trades with a lot of individuals you might get flagged by aml and if you register your business in the end you need to do kyc defeating the whole point of crypto. Basically what i am saying is the goverments have already sucessfully coopted crypto and they don't need to break monero to in the end fuck the end user, basically if you want to legit use it as a payment model it would become ilegal.

>Ok i wonder in the long term how is the circular economy going to work, basically i mean in the long term in the individual level people are fucked.

It'll work the same way it had always worked: as a parallel economic system using foreign currency, the thriving Soviet-era black markets of Eastern Europe are a prime example of this.

>Illegal dealing in foreign currency was punishable with up to eight years in prison. In 1961, already under Nikita Khrushchev, Article 88 was added to the Criminal Code, which envisaged a punishment from three years in prison to the death penalty (execution by shooting), if dealing was in particularly large amounts.

>Such severe persecution of foreign exchange dealers was a reaction to a thriving black market that operated despite all official bans. It was there that the real exchange rate of the Soviet ruble to the US dollar was set, and it was not 67 kopecks, but 8-10 rubles to a dollar.

https://www.rbth.com/history/333072-us-dollars-soviet-union

If the brutally repressive Bolsheviks were unable to prevent its citizens from acquiring and using foreign currency then neither will Western governments, in this case with crypto.

The future is underground, don't expect ANY crypto to have mainstream economic acceptance once CBDCs are rolled out, Uncle Sam & Friends will NEVER tolerate a worthy competitor.

You need to see monero being as illegal as alcohol during the prohibition, or weed and other 'light' drugs in current year. People will just use it anyway.
The fiat scam can only run for so long, and governments will of course force the hand of all big businesses so they can't accept anything other than their CBDC. This is a given.
This will spur the new era of small, independent businesses. Globalism will take a massive hit because people will start opting to buying local (with monero and other non-legacy currencies) instead of buying on Amazon or Walmart.
The government DOES NOT have the necessary manpower to force all small businesses out there to be CBDC-only. And small business owners from your neighborhood, who will be very wary of governments and banks, will happily accept alternative currencies in which their value isn't diminished by bad policy.

For all of this to happen you will need some kind of big black swan event that will greatly impact the dollar. Some period of hyperinflation or even the current high inflation for a long enough time will make people start looking for alternative currencies to save their money in (precious metals as physical currency, crypto as digital currency)..

It is true isn't it? that the Jewish Money printers racket of destroying white societies by luring Negroes with income tax payer handouts to push them into white communities to terrorize the white neighborhoods will end once Monero is used by enough white people? Once enough white people are using Monero the Jews who use their Banking Aparatus to spy on all the white peoples transactions so that they can steal from white families under the guise of a constitutionally illegal "income tax" that just ends up becoming a handout system giving free housing and food for negroes who never work for it.

I hear that Jews are really scarred of Monero and do not allow any of their celebrity puppets to talk about Monero to the public.

Is it true that Jews are the main enemy of Monero because it stops the Jews from printing money and it stops the Jews from choosing who stays in business with the funny money bailouts and covid funny money stimulus?

Will jews allow Monero to thwart them?

>If you are just a legit business you will need to do all of the AML/CTF just to accept monero or even any crypto,

There won't be any "legit" acceptance of crypto once CBDCs are rolled out, everything moves underground at that point and Monero is already firmly established there.

Stop worrying about scenarios that aren't likely to happen, assume that Monero will be universally banned and plan accordingly.

This type of system can't be stopped as long as monero/cbdc whales with a profit motive exist. They can try to stop this kind of thing from happening by making it illegal to spend them or transfer them to certain people/businesses, but that isn't any different than what we have now and these networks still exist.

My recommendation is to stop being a useless lazy bastard. You said you're good with computers so this really shouldn't take you more than 2-3 hours total:
>buy 3 USB sticks
>get 3 pieces of paper
>create wallet using seed + extended passphrase (you can't forget this)
>write seed down on all papers, store them at different locations
>install Live Ubuntu or whatever on one of the USB sticks with persistent storage
>boot from USB and install VeraCrypt
>create an encrypted vault (you can't forget the password) where you gonna store all of your software, wallets, passwords, personal photos and docs, etc
>add some instruction text document in the unencrypted part of the live Linux distro for yourself in the future
>clone this USB stick to your other two USB sticks using dd
>store USB sticks at different locations

It's really not that hard.
Using this blueprint above you will be protected in case someone access your paper wallets (seeds won't take anywhere without the extension), you will be protected in case you need to move fast (you can have a USB on your keychain, you can even store the seed online if you want because it's useless without the extension), and even if your house explodes (you have copies in different locations). You can also use your USB sticks as cold wallets if you want by never connecting them to the internet (boot, create the tx files, move the tx file to a hot device via another USB stick and broadcast from there).

Nice and easy DIY. No need to trust regulated and government-friendly hardware companies with your data.
Also if someone goes to your place and see that you have a Ledger™ or a Trezor™ they might instantly know you hold a good amount of crypto which will automatically make you a target.

Pretty sure monero is not quantum-proof because of bulletproofs aren't QP or something. But it's worth it because bulletproofs are so damn compact compared to other ZKPs. Other than that, I think ed25519 is fine because ECC uses discrete log instead of prime factoring? I would ask in the dev IRC (https://web.libera.chat/#monero)), it's been discussed to death there.

Monero's cryptography fpr a transaction consists of several parts:
- the inputs having CLSAG signatures
- the ring having a key image
- the amounts having Pedersen commitments and BP+s
- the output being to a one time key
- view tags/payment ids/other misc features
Arguably the weakest part are the BP+s because they are a new construction, but fundamentally all the above relies on the DLP that is if you multiply a point on an elliptic curve by a integer, you won't be able to divide it to get back. This assumption has been around for decades now and doesn't seem like it can be solved any other way than with brute force.
People always bring up the amounts' BP+s as an example for what can happen if a QC for example breaks the DLP, but they fail to consider the fact that would break everything, including signatures or one time addresses. And it'd break Bitcoin signatures for P2PK UTXOs (all of Satoshi's coins and more) and HTTPS and PDF signatures and Linux package/Windows executable/Android APK/iOS app signatures and probably shitloads more stuff, so BP+s being the point of concern is just so weird that it is almost FUD level.
This is all assuming that QCs can feasibly break ECC, I'm not that well read on this topic, but it seems that QCs need to be several orders of magnitudes larger (and more stable) in order to pull this off, still giving time for Monero to mitigate. And thus, there are some plans, including a "switch commitments" (https://github.com/monero-project/research-lab/issues/105)) and ZKP adoption, thought I need to stress that the current plans are BP+(+)s based ZKPs, which would be safe considering today's climate, but for a more robust solution we'd need to find ZKPs based on different cryptographic assumptions, possible zkSTARKs.

>> No.53771721

>>53768761
>>53771680
Cont.
And to wrap the story of QC in Monero, there is the side note of what if QCs are able to feasibly break hashing algorithms, which would threaten both block production, and basically all cryptography (including the aforementioned zkSTARKs) but from my limited experience, QCs are still only able to halve the security. Not to mention that this would extend to the entirety of Bitcoin, breaking P2PKH UTXOs and block production as well.

So sure, QCs can be a scary concept but overall we have time, and we are partially to blame for choosing just some difficult math exercise, and to be fair the exercises aren't solved with QC, but instead just brute forced more rapidly.

>Trusted technology, growing adoption

Zcash was launched by one of the most respected technical teams in the world.

Zcash is the 'https of blockchains,' protecting your freedom to save and spend as you like.

Zcash was the first project to implement zk-SNARKs, a novel form of zero-knowledge cryptography that gives its users the strongest privacy available in any digital currency.

Multiple, independent organizations are funded to innovate on Zcash.

Zcash is already available on top exchanges, digital wallets and a growing number of applications.

-the dex has no idea who initiated the trade
-the kyc-service only knows you're using their service to send funds to another wallet
-chainalysis might tell them you sent to a dex, but have no idea what it was swapped to or to whom the swapped coins went
-the above also applies to fiat transfers with banks/zelle/whatever; they just know you sent money to someone for some reason which is literally not illegal (yet)

BTC and XMR have a unique trading relationship. If you watch it for a while you'll get used to it, but it would be very rare for BTC to pump and XMR to pump in sat value.

XMR is a unique asset with no parallels so describing exactly why this happens would be difficult. It would be reasonable to say that much of the money providing liquidity to the XMR:BTC trading pair is sensitive to sudden changes in BTC price.

I feel XMR thrives when BTC is flat, and pretty much always takes a hit whenever BTC goes up.

BTC hasn't had a protocol-specific crisis lately, but if that ever were to happen, there is some reasonable chance that XMR would moon.

One will get you slightly more XMR. You'd have to check yourself at the time. Assuming they're both with cashapp and I actually have no idea how cashapp works but you should probably send it to an intermediary electrum wallet for a semblance of BTC privacy on your way into XMR.

I'd say its more of a boomer greaseball heavy market. EVERYONE in the grey watch market industry is HELL bent on not paying taxes. They just experienced their biggest market boom and then bust back in march / april. The watch market dealers sit around all day and in their free time they grift, scam, and don't pay taxes. i don't understand why they aren't on board with monero. i think partly because of the btc crash back in march / april which is when luxury watch market crashed. niggers are such a bane in the luxury watch market world with their after market diamonds lol.

if anything the fact that monero (cryptonote to be more accurate) was developed by eastern europeans makes it a safer alternative to most other cryptographic software projects out there.
>So does it mean /pol/ actually is correct and there is a risk of backdoors in Moneros curve?
i don't think so, it seems that what op shared on that thread is many years old. if it was the case that encryption is broken then the implications would be massive worldwide and you'd have more important things to care about than your cryptocurrency wallet private key. so i think it's safe to assume it's not broken.
