I know you're in you edgy atheist phase that will embarrass you probably before you leave college, but the point of a tithe isn't that its a blessing vending machine input. Its that shows acceptance of the statement "all things come of thee O Lord, and of thine own have we given thee". Nothing about you or what you have is from purely your own will and power, and you acknowledge this by ritually giving a portion of what you have made (be it money from sales, produce of your land, a portion of your best animals). You know what's the strangest attribute of American millionaires? On average, they donate at least 15% of their income. Which makes material sense when you consider that wealth building is about paying yourself first, and if you can manage to tithe consistently, then paying yourself is the easy part.
