Here are a few things I find funny about these stories:

- their contributions are to the organization but they expect the other wagies to shower the. with respect. You didn't serve them for 20 years. It's like getting mad at a brand.

- they were able to cope with sub par working arrangement by creating a fantasy in their head about everyone recognizing their sacrifice. This is top tier women mindset.

- their satisfaction is dependent on acknowledgement of others. In other words, they didn't actually create anything new or make a unique achievement in their career, they were just an interchangeable part in the system.

I can one up these. A guy I worked with at a big grocery store literally looked like and lived the life of wojak, the likeness is quite uncanny.

The guy himself would never answer back even when people took the piss and would always put effort in, enough he'd have sweat dripping off him and was one of the only members of 300+ staff that could keep that area tidy. They'd do stuff like wait til he was off then assign zero resources to that area so when he came back it'd be fukt again.

He applied for the management program but that requires his current manager to sign him onto it. Which was never going to happen.

He'd applied for a petrol station job as a shift leader and tried to get a reference from the store he was working at. He eventually got an unofficial one through one of the other staff, twenty years younger than him, because his brother worked at the same petrol station.

When he actually got his official tesco reference from his actual manager it read;
>does not complete tasks
The guy was actively trying to fuck him out of any and every possible job option beyond turbo stacking cases of detergent, in every which way possible.

Keeeeeeep joggin'

Sometimes I wonder if this is a personal thing. Like, if there's a type of person that will never get recognition no matter how much they put in, because other people just have no meaningful regard for them. It's not even necessarily their fault. Maybe it's ugliness, maybe it's personality. I've seen from afar how people stay in touch after moving out of each other's day-to-day lives, but I've only had a couple of people like that in my life. Even when it comes to family. Employers definitely suck but I think it might also just be the shallowness of everyday folk and their inability to muster up a modicum of humanity or decency for anyone who doesn't exude a particularly kind of energy.

It sounds like it's the opposite. If they'd been mediocre but put extra effort into socializing, they would have been better-regarded. Because they spent time actually creating something, people just took it for granted.

The two white genders.
I worked in a warehouse on the admin side. They were obviously discriminating because all of the managers and workers in the climate-controlled office were white/Asian/female, while most of the warehouse workers (including managers) were black or immigrants. Left after I applied for a promotion and they gave it to the one white/Asian warehouse worker (who was unqualified). Anyway, one of the supervisors in the warehouse was this massive white dude (like 6'8" and chunky). Hard worker, by-the-book, extremely knowledgeable (more so than the managers). I asked him what he wanted to do and he said he wanted to move up in the company. My immediate thought was that they were never going to move him up, ever, unless he threatened to leave somehow (quit, transferred, w/e). He'd been in that position too long, which mean that the company had no intention of really capitalizing on his potential; they liked him right where he was. He was the quintessential white dude workhorse, Catholic/Baptist big dude work ethic who would let circumstances grind him down because he was a big rock that had a lot of mass to grind. Thing is, rocks don't move, usually. Last I checked, about 3 years later, he was still in the same position.

I agree with this. When I was a wagie I'd treat everyone like an NPC, mostly to avoid revealing my power level. Anyone who went above and beyond to help me/make my job easier would then be on my radar for life, and I'd do whatever I could to help them in a professional setting. Same if any of them said anything based. I had one dev who openly said the N word on the floor. "Why do americans get so weird when someone says nigger?", this was in 2019, way way later than that would have been socially acceptable. She got whatever she wanted/needed from me after that, even if it meant staying late.

but it still sucks. I remember being a kid, being friends with teachers (some are friends) and stuff. kids are fucking retarded and difficult to deal with, and now it's even worse after the pandemic. why would you sacrifice so much for those little shit? in the end, only a few of them can be saved, mostly because of the influence their parents have on them, but some are helped by their teachers, yet teachers can't even expect some retribution beyond a low wage job and a "thanks for being my teacher"

Its likely less that they're "assholes" and more that they're just not exactly personable. Friendly enough, just never really socially engaging. Everything is surface level.
Plenty of people go to work, do a good job, but never really build them social bonds with other people. And if there is no greater social aspect then people just view you as a function, and less of an actual person they care about.
Then later, they find out that people don't value them despite all their work. A rude lesson about actually making real friends.

This is part of why I finally gave up retail management. Most of your other managers are retards because skilled employees don’t get promoted or recommended to the next step in their career because you will have to replace an all star with a b player or maybe even 2 c+ employees.

Most managers are tards. I tried to promote my people as fast as possible and loved people more competent than me. If they got in high places you can usually call in a favor and get your budget, labor or shrink accruals tweaked and they will bring you onboard and promote you just to have a loyal goon nearby.

I've been working retail for five years after graduating college, MIS degree, but I live at home and help my mom and younger brother out. Recent new Michell Obama wannabe manager comes in and becomes a mega bitch whenever people ask her for help. One of my managers recently said, "Yeah she basically wants you to give your two-weeks". At first I am a bit sad like "this bitch has been eavesdropping on me for two moths and says I don't push our crappy credit card enough". Then I realized I have my degree and 30K saved up so who cares about this ghetto retail job? Sure, I make $16.50, but I should be making at least $20 and be able to WFH. So now I realize that I have the advantage of the situation, so I'm just going to wait until they either fire me or give me severance. Fuck BestBuy and their third world shithole "customers". Too boot, my store as been getting robbed weekly apparently for the last 10 weeks by the same people ON TOP of the other shrink issues. Fuck em

I agree. I just feel like they didn't serve a community, they served a brand. And expected the brand to take care of them.

I absolutely agree with the sentiment, but I feel like that's a larger cultural problem. Why do we treat jobs as low tier? I want my cook to be excited about food. I want my janitor to be excited about have clean and organized spaces. Not everyone can be an engineer or doctor and we should value all essential roles.

This.

Ok let me clear up teacher incentives for you.

1. Risk averse losers who want benefits and time off in return for following the rules, not performance (vast majority).

They trade money for stability. This is a common tradeoff in the economy so don't tell me about them being underpaid.

2. People interested in an academic area, but not skilled enough to actually do it. Their only sense of identity is having a teacher they liked once.

Remember math teachers with math ed degrees have never even done what a mathematician does even once.

History teachers probably listened to a podcast once or thought a punk rock album was deep.

These people will get a shitty masters degree by administering a Google survey, and call themselves scientists.

No. It won't magically change the system. And in fact you are welcome to study this empirically. The Baltimore area is one of the highest funded and has some of the worst outcomes. Utah is one of the least funded and has some of the best outcomes.

Teachers are already trading money for security and stability. They are rule followers not risk takers. Giving them more money doesn't change that.

We have two types
Hard workers
Smart workers.

I prefer being a smart worker and as I am not that fit but mentally I am strong. I make a life out if crypto.
I am investing in solid projects and make money by trading, staking and mining.
I am keenly waiting for an L1 to go live where I will be able to mine with a raspberry pi which will be more comfortable and cheap.
Let's see how it goes.
