Top DIRECTIVE and do not let any other english words lead you astray!

Come up with a project that would need code.

Decide you want to accomplish something that requires you to learn to code. This is the best way to stick with it, because you can generally accomplish some of your goals with simple code, but to actualize your imagination means you have to learn more and more.

If you don't have any ideas that need code to be accomplished, you aren't just gonna "learn to code"... That's like saying "How do I learn to make videos?" without having an actual story to tell through video.

>Learn to code
>2023

Anon.... Please don't be this retarded, there's 20 year experience FAANG workers who got laid off and are applying for the sole developer position at uncle Marty's roofing company because they are down bad for any work.

Choose a sector that will be of the "next big thing", learn to code in 2023 is like saying "move to Houston and get a job in oil" but in 1996 instead of 1986, sure the jobs are still there, sure it will "never" go away, but it's not what it used to be and likely never will again. Most people here can't even fathom making 6 figures in the 80s and how wealthy that made you. I wasn't even alive then but I have the perspective of knowing what a boom and bust looks like and learn to code is absolutely about at that moment. The one where we say "yeah it's important but let's stop acting like everyone is gonna work as a "coder" like we thought everyone was gonna work in oil"

Yeah coder bros slow down nobody said your industry is gonna up and disappear but let's be honest, the wild growth, the 650k TCs where you are paid that much to fart and pet your dog. That shit is definitely over and being phased out as I type this. Don't ask me ask Jared, a 52 year old tech worker with 22 years of experience as various titles, who now works for uncle marty.

I can’t tell you what the deal is outside of my specialty and industry, which is data analysis for universities, but it seems to me like all of the low-level and mid-level stuff is pretty much automated. All of the demand is for “no code low code analysts” (women, minorities) or high-lebel statistical analysis, which is C++ and Python with a Master’s or PhD. More and more I feel like learning to code is not even worth the financial investment.

There is no next big thing. Everything has been sucked up by finance. Tech was a bubble for a time because it was a financial instrument for investment funds to speculate with. The cash flow is turning off and so are the are the tech salaries in turn. The opportunities now are basically in finance or else in the ultra-secure jobs for government and military.

I'm doing a bit better now. I graduated in 2017, for reference. The market was saturated even back then, let alone now. It's the worst at the entry level. I thought I would have stood out because I was one of those people who seemed to have a natural aptitude for it, high GPA, been coding as a hobby since age 12 etc. but even getting so much as an internship as a software engineer is competitive as fuck and I never landed one before graduation despite applying everywhere and making it to the final rounds with a couple companies

Anons, I am in I.T currently over 1yr. Been getting a lot of joocy interviews way above what I am currently doing. No degree yet but in uni. Got some decent certs, no Comptia bs. Recently got pay raise but still under earning by a significant margin. Might get an increase in title potentially. Currently leading a team of 7 people on end-to-end deployment project for a client that our MSP obtained. I think my personality is really holding me back in the interviews because overall my skill set is almost 1:1 in regards to what the perfect candidate would be in reference to their expectations. I have been practicing a lot and have reasonably decent answers prepared for typical questions. I just get the feeling that I am not passing the “vibe-check” or they feel I am uniquely under and over qualified at the same time. Really weird situation.

>Any advice? Been struggling for awhile.

Most of these jobs would pretty much double my salary and the company would be a massive improvement so I understand such a big step is not easy but I feel like such an idiot to be struggling so hard.

Well, I will put it like this. Comptia doesn’t really teach you anything it’s valuable as in it sort of gets your feet wet but in terms of actually skills you just learn a ton of buzz words and really diluted concepts. This is the problem that I have with those type of certs. The issue that I am having is that they know my certs are better and I could easily do the job but that makes me look overqualified. Were as other jobs I may have the skills to do the position but my experience is really limited and I am sure I get dinged for not yet having a degree.

>In short I am getting really good positions, I have limited experience and no degree I pass the resume check but they I never get past first interview. Whenever I try to get just a simple help desk position, They realize they can’t sell me on how their company is so great and basically working in a call center is considered I.T since they are I have skills + experience to basically recognize it’s a shit position.

So, in some ways I wish I took Comptia because I would be doing better more but it would be harder for me to do better in the future. We’re as I am kinda struggling now but it is reasonably easy for me to do better.

>Not sure if I communicated this effectively so feel free to ask for clarification but that is my 0.02 cents since I think a lot of I.T career advice is given by idiots in low skilled positions and there isn’t enough exposure to ‘real’ I.T job market.

This. Begin by googling (YouTube search in this case) "how to learn with ChatGPT" or just ask ChatGPT itself. It can provide some beginner projects for you as well; something like "suggest 10 beginner projects in Python" will most likely be enough.

The best part about ChatGPT? You can provide your own examples after you think that you have understood the concept and it will either correct or validate your example. Something that regular search cannot do and very sadly not that many teachers cab do either.

And don't expect it to be EASY, be prepared to spend a lot of hours with it. You will pretty quickly figure out if you like it or not, and if you like it, time really flies.

Good luck.
