Ethereum people "fat protocol" claim could never work because Ethereum wasn't designed with flexibility in mind, It could never adopt all the innovations to itself, What the same people are advocating for is liquidity monopoly, which without the flexibility to adopt innovation and progress the protocol will have a net negative impact of the space long term.

Also Solana is red herring and will face a similar bottleneck long term, Both shouldn't be the de-facto SC protocol.
