So anon, let me tell you a historical fact that is bretty obscure, the big AH actually shoet squeezed the federal reserve of gold and silver, the gold standard in Germany was removed for reasons you stated, however a new standard based on German labor, paid in silver coinage, just like God intended, began to force its way in. His metals, more valuable due to the expulsion of commodity shorters and speculators, were able to be traded for even more metals: get this he traded a .44oz five reich coin for two dollars, then redeemed the dollars for two .77 oz silver dollar coina, ending up with 1.54oz of silver from .44 oz of silver. This made them seethe! Degaulle of France did something similar 3 decades later before the gold standard was removed in the USA.

It's not a terrible idea, copper and nickel coins are now at the same spot silver was in the 60's-70's. They're worth more as scrap than the face value of the things. Even zinc pennies cost considerably more to make than one cent.
It's possible in another 50 years copper and nickel coins will be like junk silver is today. Worth a hell of a lot more than people paid to stack them.

Its a hedge against deflation. If money supply were to dwindle, CuNi chads will slurp with 5 cent pieces and rule laundromats with cupronickel quarter rolls, all without even having to pull a single oz from the silver stack.
Although deflation can increase the purchasing power of the federal reserve notes, at the same time the purchasing power of metals would be retained albiet a number value drop. Still going to be able to trade a handful of gallons of gasoline for an oz of silver, however if we go back to silver dollars via the deflation route, would u not want to spend 20 nickels to get the same purchasing power as the silver oz?
Nothing wrong with some shoeboxes of nickels, my wife has a million pairs of shoes and i have some nickel boxes that conveniently blend in

Had a dream this AM. I was in Mexico, somehow acquired two rocks, roughly hand-sized and shaped. They were encrusted with very small gold scales, like on a snake. One's top was about half covered, the other about 3/4. As I went through a Mexican checkpoint, the guard found the rocks and I got the impression he was looking for crooks like me doing this kind of thing. So I told him I didn't think this was really gold, and offered to sell him one for 1,000 pesos. He agreed, and I gave him the more heavily-encrusted one. He was happy, I got home.

Then I was on skis in a forest with no snow anywhere, carefully slaloming down basically a cliff with roots all over, looking for spots where the ski edges could get purchase on soil.

When I got to the bottom, I met a sciency-sort of self-righteous lesbian working on something in her outdoor lab. I showed her the rock, told her the story, and she said it was gold. I looked more closely at the rock, and I could see the scales were in fact tiny Mexican gold coins (about half the size of pic related). She looked pissed (don't they always), but I felt guilty for having robbed Mexico of an artifact, and being the bad guy.

I mean we're just talking about $1k. I wouldn't sweat some cataclysmic bank failure and a bail in scenario over a measly $1k. Even the depositors at the recent bank failures got reimbursed for their full amounts, despite being millions more than the FDIC guarantees. And if you really want to FUD banks and economic doom (and ofc you do because look where we are), then small regional banks the very last place you should park your money, as these are more likely to dail and less likely to get the federal ass kissing treatment. Anon should have no issue putting $1k that into a Fidelity account and letting it grow interest in a place where he or she won't be tempted spend on frivolous things. That or buying a half ounce gold eagle would both be safe places to park $1k imo.

This is actually another major step in monetary debasement just as profound as removing gold backing from the currency. Cash is an actual commodity of limited quantity that is the basis of banking. By removing any need to hold cash, the entirety of the banking system is now credit/liquidity as it slips further and further away from reality. Cash was a limiting constraint to the debt-based-monetary system and so they pivoted away from it. Banks are now desperately trying to hold things together on momentum alone as they attempt to balance infinite inflation against infinite deflation.

Certain things have cerain useful properties, compared to other things. This iswhy a silver coin is a better form of money than a unit of crypto, its more than agreed upon, the silver has utility. As far back as history goes, silver was used for its antimicrobial properties, especially to treat wounds. In modern times, its usefulness has only increased, as silver is one of the most patented metals. The idea of valuation is not virtual.

in terms of price suppression vis-a-vis etf on the commodity exchange, its a legit claim. the idea is to buy physical for 2 reasons

1) if/when price breakout occurs physical will increase versus nonphysical contracts

2) its less liquid nature acts like a big boys savings account that is "immune" to inflation and removes your wealth outside the bankers scheme

i stack primarily for the latter. i dont expect price breakout but rather i can save and diversify a good portion of my wealth outside of the banking system in a physical form; redeemable anonymously outside of any tracked system. its just fucking neat
