I thought there was no internet while on a flight

>> No.57267360

I’m calling it now. We’ve had terms like “mostly peaceful” protests, “safe and effective” shots, and “transitory” inflation. This year the lie they repeat until it memes itself into oblivion will be “minor economic slowdown” or “minor recession.”

>> No.57267364

I'd say no. Insider is not somebody with knowledge of a thing because he appears to be at a specific place that yields him information that could be used on the stockmarket, but somebody who has a specific role in a company, organisation or government and uses that position to gain knowledge prior to everybody else and then uses that knowledge to acquire financial gains out of it.

So, the pilot maybe would be an insider or the airport tower that is being told the door flew off or the CEO of Boeing etc., but not a passenger that has no obligations or duties.

Exceptions might be if you gain knowledge by somebody who is in such a position of power/knowledge and LEAKS the information to the public. But this is not a leak in that sense, but just a "happening" an occurence, no exploitation of a position of power/knowledge of a person that is trusted to not leak information.

The answer to the question is no. Not by any definition of insider trading. Passenger in a plane is a customer of the business. Customer has a bad experience they are absolutely within their right to use that experience as thesis for bearish bets against the company.

Don't know. I heard it was changed once. And even now for this year something is being changed in CPI in regards to used cars:

>With the release of January 2024 data, the CPI program plans to update the mileage adjustment applied
to each sampled used vehicle in the used cars and trucks index. Historically, a single, stable mileage
amount estimated for a given make and model was applied to each sampled vehicle and was unchanged
throughout the year. The assigned mileage amount will now be replaced with a monthly average mileage
amount based on the age of the sampled used vehicle, and not the make and model. Each estimated price
for a sampled used vehicle will still be adjusted for depreciation.

In addition, seasonally adjusted indexes as well as calculated seasonal adjustment factors will take
the new methodology into account beginning in 2024. Revised seasonal factors are available at
www.bls.gov/cpi/seasonal-adjustment/home.htm.

i wouldn't think of it as "how bad do i lose". more like: "what are the odds that if i buy now, i will be able to sell for a profit afterward?" just look at the current level and compare to the previous high of 2022. it might re-test that high and break above it. it might test it and fall lower. what exactly would propel it higher, just the expectation that money is rapidly losing value so you might as well park it in the world's biggest companies?

i don't get this FOMO urge to buy *after* shit has been on such a tear, or the opposite of fearing to buy when something has flat-lined at a bottom.

buying SPY at the start of 2023 was clearly the smart move. buying it now in mid Jan of 2024? i personally wouldn't take that chance. risk vs reward.

picking individual stocks with more upside potential instead of sp500 broad SPY etf which is composed of companies everyone already knows about. these individual ones don't have to be completely unknown and ultra small co. either, they can be just overly sold ones, or ones that are still in the middle of expansion. let me give you two examples:

1. lyft - decent competitor to uber, lyft could be a buyout target and speculation that it would get bought out by ford had previously spiked its value. had i stuck to my own gut instinct and simply longed the stock i would be up around 30-50% by now. both uber and lyft dipped a little after some laws regarding worker pay but it wasn't as huge a drop that was made out to be by press.

2. RDFN, provides a much better UI than zillow, clean info display, if i had followed through and kept track of it i would've made 100% on it last year.

just look at btc, everyone won't shut the fuck up about it when it's hitting higher and higher prices, but when it was flat-lining at $3000 it was considered dead. same goes when it was at $15K more recently and then now you see how it came back. when sentiment is overly positive about something, and you look at the chart and it's been on an uptrend for 6-12 months, you probably missed out, or you're buying at a bad entry. if the masses treat something like it's a pariah it's probably a good time to buy but you will still need patience to wait it out. most people (including me) suck at investing because they lack patience, they want easy answers (just buy the hot trendy thing now!!!), and they were too slow to get in on the trend early.

As far as I remember we had 2 world wars and the introduction of a neokeynesian monetary system for the first fucking time in history in those 4 preceding decades. And these cycles even when using a fiat currency which has some form of gold backing don't ever last forever.

yeah, it's especially hard because there are so many users, all who you don't know. they might be genuine, they might be malevolent. they might be malevolent *and* right that the uptrend will continue. it's hard to say. that's why you always gotta do your own DD, zoom out the charts, look closely, really think hard. it's not rocket science, but you are doing battle with yourself, there is a lot of psychology going on, and a need to make money so you can have nice things faster. i get it.

just look at any chart around that 2021 top, you will see how if you were caught up in the hype it would be hard to see how the top was in or if it would keep going. so yes, bobos will have 20/20 hindsight bias now and say "holy shit everything was clearly overvalued" while mumus would say "there's no way you could have known that, at the time".

What do you guys think of the housing market in 5-10 years when boomers start croaking?

The naive consensus is that the supply will increase and answer the prayers for affordable housing.

But reasons housing market will get worse include: boomers will sell to retire into overpriced retirement homes, (then demolished into apartments) first time buyers don't like places where the boomer house sits (retirement communities), and interest rates will not drop.

Im a brainlet but it seems America is poised to become a generation of rentoids.

it was march in 2020, and i believe it was march back in 2009-2010 as well. can it really just be march all the time, due to earnings cycle?

if i recall, in 2023 the pullback started after 1st week of Feb, that was the local top. then it dipped even more in May. i don't remember what happened around March, but SVB, silvergate and regional bank crisis definitely happened sometime around March-May, would have to check dates again.

I actually said March to be conservative. I thought it might start a lot earlier and get really underway in March.
I'm talking about the yield curve sliding down in March 2021 btw. But there are a ton of other factors which make Q1 2024 a good bet.

The biggest problem the US faces today as far as the labor market goes is, there are a lot of good jobs out there that pay pretty well and offer insurance, but you are basically expected to give your life to them. It's not that they'll treat you poorly or be bad employers, it's that a lot of people these days value their free time more than money. Nothing wrong with that, but it's created a sort of productivity vacuum where a lot of shit needs to be done but people are resistant to volunteer. This is a fucking employees market. I look back on 2008 and compare it to today and can't believe people aren't securing good jobs right now before the bottom falls out. Im by no means wealthy, but I have enough money now where I buy whatever I want and don't really bother checking my bank account because I'm that comfortable. The average young laborer is so unspeakably retarded that you can enter a job as a grunt and be invaluable in 3 months of you have a good work ethic and aren't soft as baby skin. 2/3 of this volume will be used to achieve some decent daily goal like 100 euros/day tops, and 1/3 will be used for pure greed by letting a runner run with a trailing stop.

for instance you can watch this
https://youtu.be/7Df_5xepCcw
https://youtu.be/D6VtLlacVN4
I like Oscar Carboni because he sticks to daily and weekly chart.

this stuff is super basic and works well as long as you accept that you have to target tiny profits.

Sell portions of your stock or sell options to lock in profits. All my best successes have been just incrementally selling deep itm options against my position. If the stock goes up the next day the max I can make is the premium I sold the calls for- but that’s fine because that’s GREEN MONEY baby. I then just ROLL the call again to lock in that profit and allow myself to collect even MORE

you can't, insider trading is done at the high level only
There's a PBS documentary on some jew who unfortunately got caught. Turns out he managed to avoid prison lol and keeps trading...
https://youtu.be/1szayJV505M

Cohen was implicated in an alleged insider trading scandal involving an ex-SAC manager, Mathew Martoma. The SEC brought charges against many other S.A.C. employees from 2010 to 2013 with various outcomes. Martoma was convicted in 2014, in what federal prosecutors billed as the most profitable insider-trading conspiracy in history. The SEC later brought a civil lawsuit against Cohen, alleging his failure to supervise Martoma and Michael Steinberg, who was a senior employee and confidant of Cohen's. Cohen settled his civil case with regulators in January 2016; the agreement with the SEC prohibited Cohen from managing outside money until 2018.

S.A.C. Capital Advisors "pleaded guilty to insider trading charges in 2013 and paid $1.8 billion in penalties" and was required to stop handling investments for outsiders.[12] Cohen "escaped criminal indictment himself despite being the living, breathing heart of S.A.C. Capital."[12]

In 2014, Cohen founded Point72 Ventures, "a venture capital fund that makes early-stage investments".[26]
GameStop short squeeze

In January 2021, Cohen's hedge fund Point72 joined Ken Griffin's Citadel in putting $2.75 billion into Melvin Capital, the hedge fund of former Cohen protege Gabe Plotkin, as a result of the GameStop short squeeze. Cohen denied that his involvement with the short squeeze would affect his willingness to spend money on the New York Mets. Cohen deactivated his Twitter account on January 29, 2021, due to an influx of threats against him and his family.

Cohen is portrayed by Vincent D'Onofrio in the 2023 film Dumb Money, a biographical drama covering the short squeeze.

stop being a wimp who only wants to sit around a play vidya, life is for LIVING and ACHIEVING. and all you're achieving with vidya is altering the position of pixels on a screen. fuk off with ya "it doesn't matter boo hoo, I have to work" work can be fun if ya find the right job around the right people. and with a bit of saving and smart long holds, you could easily have enough to only have to work 10 or 20 hours a week then tell everyone to fuk off.
