IRS has a criminal investigation (CI) unit for tax busts on "organized" tax crimes, like drugs/cartels or white collar fraud. IRS CI agents train as federal law enforcement and carry a gun.

rank and file IRS wagies (small business and self employed, large businesses, etc. divisions) do none of that.

that works for a while but interest payments on the debt is already 6.5% of the total budget. as this inevitably grows there are only a few options

- declare bankruptcy on the debt (will never happen)
- cut the budget and pay down the debt (lol)
- print more money to pay, and in effect inflate the currency to fuck so that we have to pay less in real terms (the only remaining option)

inflating our currency to fuck disrupts poor people who will ultimately demand social change through violence. this will trigger the end of the "modern" era of america. smart money will flee to fixed supply alternatives like gold, bitcoin, property (if they can physically defend it), and monkey NFTs

this probably won't happen for another 30-100 years so we may all be dead by then.

100% job security, a pension, and you can work from home 4 days a week. if you're doing field interviews with taxpayers that will count as one of your "in office" days.

but wasn't that pic part of 87,000 hired IRS officers?
And I presume an organisation as large as the IRS just has a standard set of qualifications and contract details.
Like my employment contract stipulates that any invention that I make on company time becomes company property. My job neither revolves around anything creative that could spark such an invention nor offers me enough downtime at work to come up with an invention. It's just there as a standard phrase. I'd be surprised if the average office drone in the IRS didn't have the "you're first through the door" stuff included in their contracts.

87k hires was over a period of like 10 years. also AFAIK it was 87k hires for all IRS functions, not just revenue agents or criminal investigation -- so employees who do "back office" things like IT, run the mail room, answer phones, etc.

And as such the number of armed IRS agents is either inflated or under reported depending on how you look at it.
