Help me understand.

The reason there will be a global crash (speculated to be the biggest in history, leaving the GFC far in it's sight) is because all trading markets such as bonds, stocks and even crypto will experience a large liquidation attempt and buy gold/silver? No one mentions - gold is valuable for the reasons above, but also because the aristocracy value it. If the leaders of your country want it - its valuable. Why do they want it? Thats another question, but they want it.

Gold is also valuable anywhere on the planet and any time in history (except in the west since about the mid 70s)

Entirely too much. I've dramatically reduced it but I'm still buying regularly out of habit. Add on top various inheritances and gifts and I'm currently holding right around 2.2 kg of physical gold which works out to around 26.5% of my net worth, which is frankly pretty insane and stupid (especially since the biggest gold hoarding ancestor in my family is still alive and will probably cause another huge influx).

>For the upcoming global crash, is it better to hoard silver or gold?
If I had to choose between the two I'd take gold 100% of the time. Silver is mainly an industrial raw material and not suitable as a hedge against the economy. If the economy crashes, demand goes down and with it the silver price.

>the newer generations don't give 2 shits about gold

I don't buy it. Got any proof to offer?

As long as grandparents gift their grandchildren, as long as jewelry exists, as long as the Olympic Games are a thing, as long as language doesn't abandon several age-old idioms (silence is golden, golden voice, golden hour, etc) - gold will always be on the consciousness of people as something incredibly valuable and sought-after.

Also, gold is both culturally and economically *huge* in India and China even among younger generations and that's about 2.7 billion people.

So no, I still don't buy your assertion.

>people will trade crucial items directly between each other without currencies
Until two months in it becomes too inconvenient and some kind of currency made from rare and precious materials is introduced - as has happened literally countless times in the history of mankind. Money is just too fucking convenient and too logically of a concept to not arise over and over again. I have a cow. Peter wants a cow, but has only flour to offer in return. But I actually want water and guns. Carol has guns, Jeffrey has water, both don't want any livestock and I want to buy from both anyway, so I can't just hand one my whole cow. What do?

"while 76 percent of the respondents think that Bitcoin will either increase in value or maintain its value in 2018,
just 54 percent think that gold will do the same"

FACT OF THE DAY

The human body is composed of many elements, including Gold in trace amounts.

According the technical treatise, The Elements Third Edition, written by John Emsley and published by the Clarendon Press, Oxford in 1998, the average person's body weighing 70 kilograms would contain a total mass of 0.2 milligrams of gold. The volume of this gold in purified form would be 10 nanoliters. If this refined gold were formed into a solid cube of purified gold, the measurement of each side of the cube would be 0.22 millimeters.

By comparison, the human body contains 43 kilograms of oxygen, the most abundant element in the earth, as well as the human body. Other elements found in the human body include 16 kilograms of carbon and 7 kilograms of hydrogen.

While the role of gold in the physiological processes of the human body was unknown for many years, it has recently been determined that gold plays a role in both the health and maintenance of the joints, as well as being a key element in the transmittal of electrical signals throughout the body. Of interesting note, the human body contains 1.0 gram of Silicon. This element is commonly found in the presence of gold in nature and its metabolic function is currently unknown.

Right, .20 per token, paid in eth.

Assuming you aren't poor, even 20k of tokens is a good return. A safe 10 to 20x with an optional buy back at 35x.

I inherited ~ 1 kg of gold. My dad was a dentist. Whenever he would pull a tooth and it contained some gold, he would ask the patient if they wanted to keep it.

If they said no, he'd take out the gold and put it in a little box. After 40 years of dentistry, that added up.

Invest in things that can create value rather than merely represent them. If you don't have a reloading press or an adequate set of hand tools for example, you're being an idiot by buying gold if you think collapse is actually coming.

That makes perfect sense. 19yos *never* were the target age to buy large quantities of gold. With what disposable income are they supposed to do it? "Giving a shit about gold" doesn't mean just buying though. The majority of milennials still think that gold will at least keep its value, according to the survey quote in your post. I wouldn't call that "don't giving a shit".

I very deliberately chose "As long as grandparents gift their grandchildren" as the first example in my post. That's how it works. Old people have income, become more and more risk averse and care about traditional values, so they buy gold and gift or inherit it to their descendants. That your average 19yo is not likely to buy gold doesn't mean they don't care about it or that they won't grow up into buying gold. You can't compare today's 50+ with todays under 20s and think you've hit some kind of universal truth that today's generation has abanoned gold. You'd have to compare today's under 20s with under 20s 30 years ago or you'd have to rephrase questions towards asking about their relationship with and valuation of gold instead of merely asking about the action of buying some soon.

I think both of our observations are actually compatible.

>video
Ask your friends what the S&P 500 is currently at and they probably won't be able to even ball-park it. I'm not surprised people don't have a clue what an ounce of gold currently goes for, but they still know it's fucking valuable. Even all the millennials thinking about buying BTC probably have no clue what it's actually worth any day of the week and just a vague notion that it's profitable. Not sure about the rejecting gold part, but it does seem like a fishy situation and people taking the coin is probably not noteworthy so they cut it out of the footage.

Plus it makes a lot of sense for young people to jump on more profitable investments like the stock market. Gold in small quantities (<10% of portfolio) is a nice hedge, but it won't make you rich in the long-term. Going for risky investments while you're young and transitioning to more risk-averse investments as you age is the right choice. Never choose gold as you main investment!
