bonds have already tipped. look into how bonds react to rising fed rates. the long term ones are the ones that get pushed around the most, thus they are the ones were shorting.

i actually swung some calls on TLT this morning for about 45% gains, then put down some long term puts at the peak. gonna hold for atleast another FED shitpost (which is sometime next week)

i did accidentally my whole power hour gambling money and bought puts on LQD as well as VCLT (which are nearly the same), but fuck it, itll make money

the more expensive the underlying, the more likely it will move by a dollar or more. since bonds move so slow (less than .5% a day usually) its better to be in something that will move more than a dollar in the underlying (and like i said, for bonds this only really happens on ETFs worth more than 100/shr), since options pricing is based off of a dollar movement in underlying netting you the delta (amongst other things).

they cost more, but the returns are far greater. i tried doing calls on TMV, but percentage wise baggy kicked my ass, so now im following him

I bought puts on JNK yesterday, what do you think of that ETF? Okay?

>> No.9106045

>>9105958
itll work just fine as those are high yield bonds that will be crushed, but youre going to get less gains than if you had puts on say LQD. LQD is 115 where JNK is 35. they both are up .3% today as they both track almost the same thing. but .3% on JNK is like 12 cents where as .3% on LQD is 30+cents. so lets say you had 1 put contract of each right ATM (for simplicities sake). then pow pow hikes rates and knocks em all down. both fall by .3% but the returns you will get on the put on JNK will be less than half what you will get out of the LQD ones as the options dont give a fuck about any of that shit, and get priced off of dollar movements in the underlyings.

so while the puts on LQD are much more expensive, you have the potential to make over twice as much on (essentially) the same contract

does that make sense?

yeah if youre going super longterm on the expiry and planning on holding through multiple FED shitposts, it will ultimately pay off, just bear in mind that you could do the same thing and get twice as much with LQD with just a little more purchasing power.

what im doing is longterm (about 200 days out) puts on TLT and LQD, and then on days like today i hedge by buying really short term (like 2-5days out) ITM calls and swinging them.

pretty much doing the same thing on GLD, but with VERY longterm calls to scalp rho. then i can hedge by buying shorterm ITM calls on UUP and flip em when the dollar tops out. rinse, repeat

its not because rates have been at 0% forever. i did the math. a 638day ATM contract on GLD is about $1000. calculating the rho (which is percent increase per 1% raise in rates (which we will have multiple of before my contract expires or theta becomes an issue)) nets me 10%. the way i see it, its a way to make a longterm bullish move on gold, but also get essentially paid a "coupon" like bonds of $25 per 25pt basis move (sans the part where i buy bonds and just watch my money disappear and am locked in for 10yrs). i was just trying to find a way to replace bonds, since theyre so shit right now.

also, bear in mind that as rates increase, rho becomes larger on ALL contracts (and MORESO on longterm ones). its an experiment, and if were indeed headed for a recession, i definitely want to be holding a couple GLD contracts just in case.

it doesnt seem like much, but getting a bonus everytime the FED hikes rates (which inevitably makes damn near EVERYTHING red) over the next year or so is nothing to sneeze about. and like i said, this position also doubles as a long bullish call (because it IS) on GLD.

and hedging on GLD is easy as you have a bunch of inverse leveraged GLD things, and also you can hedge with shorter term UUP calls.

UUP is actually another one i was thinking of trying as the 600+day contracts are still like a $1, but the rhoyield on the ATM ones is like 18%. since rate hikes make the dollar bullish ANYWAYS, and im getting about 4.3% per 25basis point move, it all adds up.

In China, people only care about money and "face". Added value, morality, honor or dignity, those are for the weaks.
If you are a small company, you do an IPO just to get investors' money and wait for death while eating toxic rice, gutter oil and fake eggs

If you are a big and somehow profitable, you must bend to the will of the commies and do their biddings.
Just look at all the VC crap of JD.com, Tencent or Alibaba.
It is mostly bailing out failing companies.
And whenever they back up an IPO, you can be sure they have majority ownership in them and want to cash out, after swapping all their toxic assets into the balance sheet of the IPOing company.

Fuck the chinks.

once i've done this for more than a month in a ridiculous up and down market like this it seems like finding entry points and waiting until your told to exit the trade will be much easier, like if you look at Amazon the past 18 months or so its been a buy over and over and never a sell until like a month ago, huge gains if your reentering on leverage using past profits each time the chart says to do so

>TA on a macro scale seems to work REALLY well there
yeah its because almost ALL of the volume is traded by relatively simple algos that all use those indicators. if youre trading manually ur a skrub (but wheres the fun in that?).

>i only do my TA moves off the daily for the most part, with contributions from the 4 hourly for entry points within a couple days period
ALWAYS check your TA on multiple timeframes (ideally side by side). i used to not do it, but now im making like twice as many good trades so its helping. check pic related, its my new setup ive been trying this week. i started using the itchy clouds a couple weeks ago and learned about point and figure literally this weekend.

i got weekly, daily, 15min (thinking of changing this to 2-4hrs as i havent been using the 15min as much), and 5min. gives me where and when its trending. the itchy gives me buy and sell triggers, i got volume on the 5min to see if things are getting wild, and then i got a little point and figure chart to filter out noise on ugly charts (like commodities). its also helpful for quickly determining options strikes. and then if i need a better look i an maximize any of them

do your own thing and figure out which indicators work best for you and set up something you an glance at and see all timeframes. itll help keep your emotions at bay

And ever since I got Amazon last summer I've been a kind of consistent +35% from starting money

teh profit, you sure it's bad even if the stock is only trending upwards?

>But the spread won't matter if I sell in the middle right?
That's the reason why its so bad the mid price is half of the spread.
Lets say if you buy right now at the 85 strike and it goes up to 100 its going to be deep ITM.
Right now the deep ITM calls have a 5 dollar spread. Your going to lose 2.50 (250 dollars) per option contract at the mid price.
And because the volume on options is so low you probably won't get filled at the mid price and will be forced to sell at the bid price losing the whole
5 dollars (500 dollars) per contract.

Damn I thought I was a genius finding this little goldmine. I've only taken 40% profits from it so far so I got really confident and threw a good chunk on some more contracts. I'm too much of a pussy to bank on the tech stocks in this market right now since they're so volatile, but I still feel mostly bullish.

Alright how about this strategy. I'm making some bullish speculations that this stock will keep mooning for weeks to come. It's currently trading at $86.80, so I'm buying a bit OTM at $90. Once it hits 90$ I can expect to sell the contract to someone else with fairly low spread (0.50 cents in a $4.00 contract) and take large profits. Is this a naive way of approaching options? Thanks sandpais

imo learning the greeks is overrated.
look at options that are expiring friday to get a sense of what options *could* be worth.

then look at how fast the price would have to rise to be X dollars above the strike.
wait for a few red days, then buy a call 3 months out. obv, it has to go above your strike, not just make it to the strike to be valuable at expiry

the greeks are just numerical representations of all these ideas you should already understand natively

delta is what the price will move if the underlying moves $1 AND nothing else changes. theres also volatility, theta, people buying and selling messing with the spread etc. options have a lot going on. learn more about the greeks before you trade too much options.

when im OTM 30-40 is my sweet spot. ill look for contracts that are really cheap (like the silver ones i flip all the time), and ride it for half a dollar to a dollar of the underlying. gives me good leverage with small positions, and if you time it right on reversals, its pretty reliable (especially on predictably moving things like SLV)

as far as i can tell those look fine. spreads not bad, the volume sux, but thats not a huge deal as atleast theres open interest. delta is on the lower end with what i personally would trade, but youre really bullish on it, so i wouldve done a similar thing probably (though i wouldve given more time for such a far OTM contract). youll start to feel that theta pretty soon, so lets hope it tears up to 90 real quick

If you paid 1.30 on each contract your down 35 dollars already on top of losing the 25 dollars you're expecting the future to sell at mid or the entire 50 dollars of the spread.
That's 60-85 dollars on each contract above the premium you paid on the option that you have to make up to break even.

Right now EXPO is expecting a to be within 5 dollars in either direction so being at 91 dollars is right at the edge of 1 std. deviation.
Many believe IV is historically overstated meaning that at expiration you probably won't hit 91 dollars.
Also count in the theta at minimum losing 100 dollars to decay by expiry this is without counting theta increasing the closer it gets to expiration.

To make money on $EXPO being bullish I would have just bought the stock. Then think about leveraging through options towards next earnings in July.
To make money on this $EXPO would have to release some amazing press release about a big client they won or impressive study cause you just bought at its ATH
and they released their earnings last week.

I think it was because he got what he wanted out of his nuclear program. He wants to ensure the survival of his rule. I think Kim learned some hard lessons from watching Saddam and Gaddafi get JUST'd by the US.

Kim has done (and continues to do) a lot of terrible shit to his people. Now that the discussion is centered around nukes, he is getting 1) international respect and 2) a total pass for all the other shit he did. Now that Kim has a seat at the table, he wants to play with the big boys.

Which is a massive nothing burger.
The spike today may have been the result of a fucking short squeeze.

The healthcare industry is some bullshit.
I'm waiting for a good entry for shorting CAH. I really hope AMZN really does put them out of business.

>I'm only playing with my fuck around money
Yeah, I start all my investments into new territory with a speculative mindset.
That's why this valley of death sucked so much. If I realized the losses, I'd completely lose the comfy buffer that I had for justifying the risky shit I'll hold for months at a time like SOXL and SPXL

teh profit, you said you were longing GLD, right? Why do you believe that gold is going to rise in value with rising inflation and rising interest rates? Don't those factors push down the price of gold?
