I've got a telephone interview with a big 4 firm next week (Deloitte) for audit.

Has anyone had any experience with them and telephone interviews in particular? Should I have some sort of script in front of me or just memorize everything im going to say?

My friend just got offered a position there. Has an interview with them tomorrow where they are going to try to sell themselves over Capital One to him.

How'd he go about his telephone interview and what did they ask him?

I'm getting flown out and put up in an embassy suites next week for a second round of interviews for an advisory internship at EY.

Just research all the functions of your would be job and look up example behavioral questions. Their first round of interviews is really not too bad at all so you shouldn't be nervous

I did a History degree though so my maths isn't all that great. Will the interview have some technical aspects to it?

>> No.934377

>>934372
lol my undergrad was history too, there is no way they can ask you technical questions over the phone. They will only ask you behavioral questions like "When was a time when you had a difficult group to work with and how did you overcome it?"

If they invite you to the 2nd round of interviews at their office, then they'll give you case studies to look over.

Sucks that you're doing it over the phone though, EY took us all out to a Brazillian steakhouse for a social meet and greet

I live 3500 miles away. Unless I flew up to the UK this week, phone is the only way to do it.

well there's your extra incentive, an all expenses paid trip to the UK. I'd say brush up on your IFRS knowledge and I can't stress enough to:

Ask them good questions that let them know that you are familiar with the intricacies of what they do. My interviewer was impressed that I used their lingo when the night before she said that she expected us to not know anything about what they did.

So what's some audit lingo? And what is IFRS?

..... how did you get a phone interview with Deloitte for auditing if you don't know what IFRS is? I hate accounting/accountants but even I know what it means.

I can't help you if you don't even know the basics

Yeah, I just looked it up. Will have a read through.

IFRS you know that thing most of us learn in intermediate.

I'm interning at EY in assurance this year, getting flown out just for an interview is ridiculous. Do they not have an office near your city?

These guys throw crazy money on their interns though. We haven't even started work and they've thrown two fully supplied and catered functions, just for a bunch of kids.

>> No.934640

>>934585
I live a ways away from them, but I assume they're loose with their money to impress interns enough to make them stay.

>> No.934762

When advisory is doing good they pretty fast and loose since they have high turnover to begin with, even compared to audit and tax.

The thing is if there's ever a downturn, nobody wants advisory and suddenly everyone is fired.

Research STAR reviews. Have multiple (specific!) examples set up in this way. The interviewer is not looking to "connect" with you, they'll be bored and they'll have a checklist in front of them to note whether you convey things clearly and get to the point.

It's going to be bureaucratic bullshit but the big 4 interview I once had wasn't that bad. Ironically, all engineering company interviews I've had have been more bullshitty, with them asking 50000 competency questions.

Also have a proper answer for why this job, industry, degree, company

>> No.934797

Senior indirect tax consultant here.

Have a script in front of you during the interview.

I knew beforehand that I was gonna be tested in a language other than my mother tongue, so I prepared multiple answers to possible questions in that language.

Just be prepared. Things get a lot better if you are past HR.

i work with deloitte contractors at a major bank in the uk, they work stupid hours - e.g one guy was developing code until 10/11pm a few days in a row and most brag about staying late in the office.

it's a weird culture.

>> No.934850

>>934814

I've heard this a lot, but you have to realize some people just are highly inefficient.

Know that they bill the client for the hours you put in, so partners aren't fond of people that put in so many hours either.

I did a phone interview with kpmg.

So long as you know about current events and businesses it's a doddle. The only thing I failed on was why did I choose kpmg over the other big 4 (I didn't look at the others as only kpmg offered public sector audit).

And now I'm a pharmacist instead.

I think it's best to have a framed picture of Gary Busey in front of you during the call. Gary will keep you calm. Gary is love. Gary is peace.
