Crypto can't survive independently. Its is merely tolerated because it is useful for the purposes of black markets and black ops. There is several flaws that no one likes to admit.

1) The governments control all the cables and can force ISPs to block traffic. I2P is not your saving grace as that is run by a "volunteer network". Thus the network can be shut down very quickly.

2) The hardware most wallets run on is fundamentally compromised and most likely all private keys have been logged if it passed through Intel processors.

3) The government has tremendous computing power as it has the ability to monitor all traffic in the US for up to two hours since 2009. A simple switching of kernals on those FPGAs to whatever hash of the coin they wish to 51% attack will be effortless and simply can kill most coins with in a block.

4) 95%+ coins will be wiped out by quantum computers and Shor's algorithm by 2022-2025.

The governments and the elites that bought the governments. Simply speaking its is an extremely effective way to hide money and/or launder money. So if was being purge for corruption I would throw all my shit into crypto and hide the private keys somewhere far away or have the seed to generate the keys memorized.

As soon as the markets crash and the decentralized coins become a soft economic threat to the governments they will liquidate their holdings and shut it down. Also if the networks were as good as we think they are and with its public ledger the governments would have switched to it very quickly to prevent plebs from hiding money and having 100% tax efficiency.
