The Basic Attention Token (BAT) has value in that it's a (theoretically) immutable, decentralized way for content creators to earn money for their content without being censored or monitored by a centralized authority.

>Example 1: YouTube shuts off ad revenue on your video because it has a copyright strike.
Solution: people watching your video can easily tip you, while bypassing YouTube's authority to control your revenue. YouTube's power to control your content is lessened, and the viewer's power to control content (via tip amount) is increased.

>Example 2: Twitter shadowbans your Twitter account so its Tweets show up in less feeds and attract less retweets/likes/interactions, decreasing potential revenue for that account.
Solution: people that support your Twitter account can easily tip you, while bypassing Twitter's authority to control your account's exposure/revenue. Twitter's power to control your exposure is lessened, and the public's ability to control your revenue is increased.

Name any content creation website and you can deduct a similar example. These centralized authorities shouldn't have the power to control what we see/post/create on the internet, and they're doing that by controlling revenue. BAT's value is that it POTENTIALLY negates all of that centralized authority to control revenue, and gives it to the VIEWER. No more big brother Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc. controlling your revenue, when your fans can easily donate directly to you.

>Counterarguments: This gives Brave the central authority to control who receives BAT.
True. From what I've seen, Brave has only denied BAT in cases of fraud, but it would require putting a lot of trust in Brave.
>Why would we need this when we have Patreon?
Patreon is a very convoluted way to beg for scraps and almost always seems like a last resort for many content creators. Often content creators also need to promise more to fans when they're already creating content.

TLDR: BAT's value is that it negates Big Brother's control on content creation revenue.

DECREASES the power of Twitter, YouTube, Google, Facebook, etc. controlling what we see/post/create on the internet, INCREASES the viewer's power to control what we see/post/create on the internet.

Yeah there seems to be a myriad of not so obvious ways the monitization of user attention will affect web 3.0. not even mentioning the potential $100+ Billion dollar ad industry. Brave/BAT is going to be huge.

Exactly. I'm completely ignoring Brave's whole potential and focusing on BAT's unique value, but the beautiful thing is, they marry these two things together so perfectly:

1) The broken advertising/privacy model of the current internet; and

2) The broken content creation model of the current internet.

Both are broken and complained about CONSTANTLY, but the average internet user has essentially had no other choice but to deal with it, up until Brave/BAT.

it’s more about viewer adoption at this point than anything. People get very confused about “internet money” or “browser token” and can’t wrap their heads around basically getting increments of free money to move around online. If this can catch on it’d be huge, but the bigger question is, how would it ever catch on? that’s what I’m worried about

Dont even bother shilling this anymore. Those on biz who are still not BATbros unironically do not deserve this token.

too long, didn't read, will still not watch your content (because you don't have any) nor your ads (because I have a real adblock)
