It's never enough. I have been through this at many levels now. First I thought 40k would be nice, but nope not enough, then I figured 60k was good, but still it wasn't enough, then I set my sights on 100k and yet again I find that I am quickly used to this level of income, and it is once again not enough.
It really never ends for some of us, we just want more and will strive to get it, but I fear it will never truly be enough to us.

Honestly 100k only nets you 28k after expenses and most of them put 10 of that towards student loans for 10 years to pay off ~70k with 6% interest.

Without investing, and never ever spending a dime on furniture or dates or life, their first 100k cash takes about half a decade. Since they are human, it takes a decade. Then it's spent on raising their kids.

I drive a 10 year old Acura and live in a 3 bed/2 bath home in the suburbs. Buy clothes from Target or Kohls once a year and have an iPhone that's always 2-3 generations behind.

I am happy as can be, because I don't associate some sort of lifestyle to my level of income. I've been there done that buying the latest stuff and trying to impress people, but you realize it's just consumerism that's been drilled into your head since you were a kid.

NYCfag here. Currently clearing about 110k, but I have a job opportunity where I would make over 200k, but after 10 years of time on. I would be starting at around 50k, and make incremental jumps yearly until the 10 year mark where I would be at 200k. Is this worth it? If you purchased 10k of trading cards in 2010, you'd have made it by now. The prices have skyrocketed roughly 10000% across the board. And it's only going to get better from here on, now, even the companies are listening, with products like Ultimate Masters that are tailor-made for investors.

The reality is it doesn’t benefit your elbow one bit if you make $100 dollars a day or $10,000. The only thing that changes is the mind. Our lives are mainly psychological. Tell me, what part of your personality didn’t come from the world? All information comes from the world, even our bodies are part of the world. But since our egos are completely developed from external information, how can you say that is really who you are? The only part of us that is constant, is the witness, or that which witnesses the present. Once you realize that the what the ego values, is completely subjective, constantly changing, and external to your true self, then you will realize that there is no point in pursuing its whims. The ego will never be satisfied. If today you make $10,000 dollars a day, it will not be enough, not even $1,000,000 will be enough if you identify your soul with your ego. The ego is made up of thoughts, and thoughts are external to you! We just believe we are our thoughts because we have had the ego with us since birth, but the ego or mind is just a survival tool, fear is simply a product of the brain. Distance yourself from these things, and return to joy.

Starting a new job in a fortnight earning €500/day as a business analyst contractor. Spent last 9 months on €50 an hour working for a huge bank. Moving to a different huge bank now. The new job will net me an extra 10k or so over the course of a year and based on 6 weeks holidays that would be 115k before taxes.

I get paid through my limited company and invest via the company as tax on profits is 19% rather than the 45%+ I'd pay if I paid myself first then invested in my own name. Personal tax here (Ireland) is a fucking joke.

This week I checked out all my transactions for the past 12 months and I have spent a lot of money on stupid shit. 2019 I will really try and reign that in because I'll never retire if I keep extending my means.

Background is an econ/finance degree, experience in banks (back office) and then a few years in a legal firm as a BA which got me most of my experience. My salary over the last years is, in reverse order

100k
50k
40k
39k
37k
30k
28k

You can see my average salary is pretty shit and it's only the last year where it's taken off. However my early shitly paid experience is still brought up in interviews so it wasn't all for nothing.

30 yrs old...

Am I considered 6 figs if total compensation is over $100k?

Base salary around $95k, participate in mandatory pension plan that requires me to contribute around over $10k a yr, so net $85k now... however, the employer also contributes over $10k a yr into the pension plan as well. so $85k + $10k + $10k... > $100k...

all the insurance, taxes, union, pension deductions, my overall net pay is around $60k... around 40% loss from gross pay.

Then there's other fucking taxes like property taxes, purchase/sales tax, etc.

Why do we even bother biz?

‘Processes’ is an interesting term. If I had to step back and describe the process, ‘step 1’ would be something like: understand that you will never make it as an employee- but also understand that if you don’t learn the processes of your business as an employee you will also never make it- there is indispensable value in learning about your trade. Granted this somewhat requires working in a small outfit that exposes you to all aspects of your business.

>The IRS tends to take a closer look at S-corporation returns since the potential for abuse is so large. For example, if you make $500,000 in one year but only designate $20,000 of that as salary income, you might trigger an IRS inquiry, since you are avoiding so much self-employment tax. The guiding principle is that you must designate a "reasonable" amount of your income as wages, rather than a distribution. What constitutes "reasonable" can often be a gray area, but if you push the envelope too far, you put yourself at risk for an IRS audit and potentially penalties and interest on any back taxes assessed by the IRS.

Step 2: Practice till you make it.

I started building websites at age 16 and now I do affiliate marketing full time. I likely will bank enough in this industry to retire early and never do any other line of work.
