Hey /biz/ hows it going? Fellow pseud checking in, in need of advice. OP anon here was double majoring in philosophy and linguistics at a top 20 university but literally flunked out because he stopped going to class and was doing a lot of drugs. Now OP anon is transferring to a small Catholic university as a philosophy major.

Given this information, I think it's probably pretty obvious that I come from a definitively analytic philosophy department. Similarly, my own interests have largely revolved around logic/math/analytic philosophy/cognitive science, but I'm not some positivist "autist", and I have a deep respect for the continental tradition and have spent a decent amount of time studying the phenomenologists. That being said, I'm not exactly well-read when it comes to continental philosophy, and I don't really know what a continental philosopher in 2018 would be studying/researching, nor do I know what a course/seminar on continental philosophy.

Additionally, the small Catholic, continental department I'm moving to requires student to complete a senior thesis, whereas the school I went to previously did not, so I'm probably going to have really explore the work of a particular continental philosophy, or some particular concept, quite in depth. For these reasons, I'm looking to familiarize myself with the culture and methodology surrounding continental philosophy. More so even than that, I was wondering if there's any really prevalent research areas where continental philosophers are applying math or computer science to explore philosophy problems. HERE IM TALKING ABOUT APPLYING MATHEMATICAL TECHNIQUES TO PHILOSOPHY, NOT THE PHILOSOPHY OF MATH/COMPUTER SCIENCE (e.g., to clarify, I recently purchased a collection of Alain Badiou's work, and I'm interested in it, but his work is more some philosophy of math, rather than mathematics applied to philosophy).

No. I was really interested in applying abstract algebra and logic to studying the semantics of natural and formal languages, but I fucked up. Now I have to move to a new university, but I don't want to spend the next for years reading Deleuze and Lacan and trying to rap my head around what it means to unconsciously desire something. Hence, I wan't to find out how I can apply math to literary theory or political philosophy in a continental-esque manner (I'd be more interested in analyzing natural language, but as far as I know, continental philosophers aren't as into that sort of thing).
