More than money, it's mostly to be free of financial responsibilities. I basically want everyday to begin like this
>oh, woke up
>nice, it's Saturday so I have the whole day free
But without the
>shit, I only have a few hours left before having to do this for uni or going back to work tomorrow...
>damn, what did I have to pay again? Oh yeah...

If I want to work or do something I want to do it of my own volition like a hobby, not because it's forced upon me. It's that simple and I don't even know the amount of money one would need to achieve this goal. In fact, I don't know much and my knowledge is pretty limited. I came to this board in hope of learning things new, things that would help me starting somewhere since I'm penniless but I've only found cryptos, autists and memes. /pol/ was a retarded hurtbox with crazy conspiracy maniacs but at least they created a common enemy and gave a meaning to my life. Since I started browsing /biz/ and started to learn a little how money or markets work I came to the realization that even the 'big players' have their own interests in mind and that things get out of their control. There is no ultimate evil scheme or something. Just people being greedy and acting towards their goals

That would be nice except only a small amount of people could make that happen. Money isn't the greatest thing but skills and knowledge are. I'd rather know how to build and create than to just be given land and figure it out. Homesteading is a past time but its truly the most important know-how of life. We depend on the grid. What happens when the grid goes off? You have to know how to stay alive. So many will be fucked if a major crisis were to hit America. They and we depend too much on those stores and resources unless you have the knowledge to keep it going yourself. I don't know why people don't learn how to do those things. Instead, they go on Facebook all fucking day and watch stupid videos. Watch how to videos more often. Prep yourself for an economic collapse.

Assuming I own and pay off the following items: 15-20 acres of land, Home(nothing fancy, say 150k in value for just the home), and an RV(to live in while building the home, for occasional travel, secondary movile living space in case shit goes down), I could make 40k a year and be fine. At least half of my food would be grown(NC crops) and I would raise hens for eggs. I would also like access to a stream for fishing. The main expenses I would need to cover would be Insurances, property tax, internet, and electricity. I would like solar but electricity is cheap as fuck already so might as well have it and save solar for shtd situations

You can do it with half that. On average your index fund will grow about 8% a year. If you put 2.5 million in one of those you could withdraw 100k (4%) annually and still see growth.

Thats why i feel

don't measure with how much you own but how much you earn passively.

Speaking in terms of cash net equivalent, between 1 and 5 million should be plenty.

1 million on a 5% ROI gives 50K per year. If you assume, again, this is a cash net equivalent, and that your house, cars business etc are all paid off, or their debt is counterbalanced by an equal amount of cash/positions/assets, then 50K per year would be living like a god damned king, imo.

There are funds that return higher interest than that and they are easy to find. You could get 200-250k a year interest with low risk.

20mm invested in 4% tax free municipal bonds yields 1mm year. So 40$ before i cash out and have to pay the tax man

>> No.13112124

1M would be amazing, but 1M and some extra 500k would be the best, that one million in U$ would become 3M in the country where I live, after the tax rape of course, but 3M is enough money for me to buy decent farmland and get my family working for ourselves, it would still hard work, but the fact that its our land would make the work only more rewarding.
The extra 500k I would put in some investment abroad, if I take good care of it, eventually I would have 1M in a safe place outside the country.
Truth be told even 250k would set me up for life, that would become 850k here, but I'm really hoping for at least half a million, 100k to invest, the other 400k I would use to buy farmland.

$5 million put into index funds, withdrawing enough yearly to live on while beating inflation.

>> No.13112473

Probably 600k in shares and a house.
I can live off 30k if I don't have to worry about rent and with a 3-4% drawdown should be comfy irrespective of inflation for the rest of my life.

I have about 16k right now at 24, so I got a long ass way to go
