How the hell do people afford to live in big cities like NYC, boston, san francisco?

I understand if you get paid a lot. 100k plus, but i doubt most people do. Are people there eternal renters or just spend all their income on their mortgage and have no savings left over?

>> No.13620954

You can't unless your nose is longer than 4 inches

>> No.13620963

They can't. San Francisco literally has blue collar workers living in their cars. You can't tell a homeless person to "get a job" there because he might have 2, and regularly works overtime just to make rent on his park bench.

Rent control. It artificially keeps the rental market low so niggers won’t chimp out and start another civil war. Unfortunately it’s also one of the main reasons why rent and real estate prices are so high for everyone else. It removes a huge chunk of supply from the market. In all of those cities, every new building has to have a certain percentage of rent controlled units set aside in order to be approved for construction.

Living in the city is a meme that a lot of millenials fall for. Met so many Midwest transplants who watch nyc shows on TV. The city sucks imo. Cons vastly outweigh pros. A lot of them live paycheck to paycheck and don't even care. They have no budgets so they spend 50% of their money on rent, 25% on food, 25% on going out.
Not only do jobs pay more but there's way way more of them. I think you underestimate how difficult it is to find a job in a smaller town. Connections and networking are everything.
I don't know personally I hate it here and will be moving out within 3 years, aiming for Florida or North Carolina

I am exaggerating for comedic effect, but only slightly. This business called Podshare has been ridiculed on /biz/ lately. It looks like pic related. They rent each bed out for something like $50/night. So that's $1500/month for a living situation that is similar to a homeless shelter that doesn't feed you.

Yes, blue collar workers are living in their cars and there are actual homeless people with full time jobs. Their good teachers are leaving for other states because they can't live in southern California on the $70,000/year they are being paid.

Unless you have a cushy job or a trust fund, there is no reason to live in a city like NY because it fucking sucks. A big salary is literally the only way people are able to stand living in a cramped shithole surrounded by 3rd worlders. The rest of New Yorkers that don't make enough to get by stick around for maybe 2 or 3 years, then they pack up and go home when they run out of money.

I heard that in NYC, their news only talks about what's going on in NY, as if the rest of the world doesn't exist. Now I'm wondering if that's because they don't want the people who live there to understand that there are better options pretty much everywhere else in America.

>> No.13621128

I live in boston and its only expensive if you live in the upscale gentrified areas. I made $180k last year, not including crypto, and pay a $1100/m mortgage on my house. But I live in a "poor" suburb about 45min commute. If you want to live downtown in a yuppie apartment then its like $2-3k/month. Still not that expensive since the average income is like $200k. If you want to live in the upscale suburbs houses start at like $2mil.

The local news stick to the tri-state area so nyc, eastern NJ, and western Connecticut. There's probably like 30+ million people in this area so makes sense why the news covers that.
I'm sure a lot of people don't move because of the job situation. The average person in NYC probably pays the same percentage of their income to rent, groceries, etc as they would elsewhere.
It's only good for me because I'm making big new york bucks here and then moving out somewhere cheaper. Moving here from somewhere poor must be horrendous

This is true. The city has become way more saturated than ever with boring rich people. There used to be a nice balance of middle-class creative people too that could afford parts of Brooklyn, Soho, and the East Village but they've been gone since the early 2000's. Also, I've known a few people/couples that clear 250k+ a year and what they all did was buy a second home somewhere nice like an hour from the city for when they get sick of their apartments. Again, they are just there because they were able to find really good jobs. Can't see how else anyone could stand it.

Same for big expensive cities in the west.

However, some people just stay in the big city with shit wages all their lives, living in a small one room apartment, even if they could, with their qualification and experience, find a job in a smaller city.

The quality of life in NYC is honestly awful, you just haven't had the opportunity to compare. However, in other big cities, it could be even worse. The solution is to move out to the country. I lived in big cities my whole life until nutting up and moving to my 20 acre property in Montana.

NYC (and other big cities) are full of rude people, no parking, no freedom, everything is ugly and not natural. The "pros" that you mentioned are dumb, the "good food" is overrated, fresh farm grown and home cooked meals are tastier, "nightlife" is just loud music, sluts and liquor... and you can find that anywhere. And women aren't "beautiful", they're vain and slutty... gimme a cute country girl anytime.

Besides, there's tonnes of outdoorsy stuff to do that is good for your soul that you have denied yourself by living in the city. That isn't life, it's stasis. No wonder so many cityfolk are addicted to drugs, they see life is pointless and can't cope with reality.

Boston: Bide your time in your home state. I had a few years of waiting at a meh paying job. Got lucky with a job getting 90k in Boston. Got raises and promotions. Swapped jobs to 150k. Took me three years. Ended up moving outside the city in the end, looking for remote work instead. It's completely not worth it to live there when you can score a foreclosed condo or something like that in the middle of the state and just take the commuter rail in. You'd be commuting for an hour on the red, green or orange line with buses anyway in some outskirt shithole like Dorchester or West Roxbury -- just take the big boy train.

You're a fucking retarded nigger. Inheritance is one of the only means for middle class families to pass on wealth to later generations. Gutting that by 50% will pulverize them into a permanent slave class. Furthermore, your idea to simply tax inheritance assumes that the government is going to magically act more efficiently with this money. Explain exactly how the bulbous, bureaucratic clusterfuck of modern government is going to know how to allocate these funds? They have no competition to inform them of how to spend it, so it will be wasted and ultimately enrich companies and individuals who have their cronys lobbying in their interests.

Yep, thats exactly the case. And its also why gentrification is butt fucking long term residents in big cities in the ass so hard. There are families that have lived inside of a single apartment unit for decades, paying rent all the way and have never actually owned property.
On one hand, it's a sad story when these families lose their homes and end up on the streets. On the other hand, I dont see how you can watch grandma and everyone else pool money together and pay rent for 80 years and nobody ever thinks about actually trying to own property instead of throwing money away. Some of the prices these people/families pay are more than enough to cover a mortgage on a McMansion in Texas.

Not much to do other than riding your quad, shooting junk/animals, and getting liquored up while chasing 4/10s at best. I didn't read "above a few million" like an idiot. But the rest of my argument still stands, the government doesn't have enough information as a monopolistic centralized entity to coordinate its efforts with more efficiency than the rest of the market. You act like the government is an omniscient being that knows better than anyone how to use that money. Why do you think this? At least other market participants are informed by the decisions they make versus competition, of course this is again distorted by various restrictions and regulations placed by the government. I'm not saying the rest of the system is perfect either but taxing 50% to give to the government is a complete waste. Also you have to consider capital flight. The wealthy class already has multiple passports, citizenships, bank accounts, etc. and they will happily pick up and move if their finances are under significant threat. A 50% liquidation would be more than enough for them to exercise whatever means necessary to shelter themselves.
Why don't you just unmask yourself already and tell us that you don't believe in property rights?
>>13631596
I get what you are saying. It's very close right now, but the bridge to financial independence hasn't been blown to smithereens yet, a 50% inheritance tax would be fatal.

I live in NYC and make 70k and yet I'm basically just living day-to-day and paycheck-to-paycheck. The outsiders say this city is colorful and vibrant but I just see gray sludge and hobo shit everywhere. I wish I could leave but I can't afford a car!

I love how you acknowledge you aren't even saving nickels, you aren't saving anything. your entire life's efforts and all the wealth generated by them are being immediately spent with no generational wealth to speak of. which is fine, as long as you're okay with creating debt slaves or ending your lineage.
