I’m bored watching teenagers load my truck, plus, no one on here ever actually talks about business. Just gambling. I run a fucking business and figured y’all might be interested.

Figured folks might be interested in starting a business themselves and would like advice. I’m 23 and cleared 120k last year telling 18 year olds what to do and driving a deuce and a half 3 hours a day.

Pretty cool man. What did it take to start an operation like that?

That’s a big question. Mostly desperation. I was that teenager I tell to load my truck like 2 years ago. I got fed up and started looking for funding. It was about 13k to start up.

I tell everyone, I don’t work hard. I just own the deed to a money farm. People pay me a few grand. I move a little of that money around and bring a truck to the dumb/scrapyard and I pocket the difference. Last month my paypal hit 10k literally just from selling other people’s furniture on eBay.

I am interested. But I'm too creatively bankrupt to come up with an idea to make money. How'd you get started?

So, the idea of the business is pretty simple. I charge folks for cleanup and demolition. So whenever the housing inspector or insurance folks have a fire or hoarder, they call me. I negotiate with the owner and hit a price that covers all my costs and employees and a little extra then I do the job. Most hoarders or fires leave everything behind. So I have connections in shit like jewelry, electronics, scrap metal (from the pipes and wires mostly) and “reclaimed lumber” so I make a bunch of my profits off that kind of stuff. But the jobs themselves I always aim to profit atleast a thousand dollars. Typically that’s about 3 grand per job and a job normally takes between 3 days and 2 weeks.
As far as start up goes. Honestly I put together a business plan and I spent months seeking investors. Struck a pretty good deal for a 13k loan and I bought a truck and some tools and did it myself for 2 months. Then I had enough saved capital to hire someone. I put them to work and saved enough for another employee. After that I started growing until I hit 2 trucks and 3 jobs at a time.
Now I mostly just drive a truck around. Store the stuff I make money on and take the rest to the dump/scrapyard.

As far as creatively goes. I kinda neglected that. I was working for a contractor who complained like a motherfucker about demo so I saw a niche and I jumped. For the first couple jobs I just did his demo and clean up work and then eventually I started calling appartment complexes and (((underselling))) their own maintenance guys and following fire trucks. My advice on creativity is look for shit no one is doing and try to figure out a way to make money on that. No one wants to shovel through ash and mildewy clothes for copper. But copper sells for 2 bucks and pound and the average single family home has hundreds of pounds of it.

>> No.15024630

>>15024585
Don’t go to (((banks))) especially if you have shitty credit and debt like I did. Try to find some sucker in a suit and convince him you can pay him back.

Basically you're in restoration? I do flood sales storm chasing. Adding copper scrap would be a good idea.

I’ll end my rant here. If you can lift 50 pounds and can pay a teenager 15 bucks an hour, buy a truck. You can start a fucking empire around literally just owning a truck. The government sells off deuce and a half’s for 5-8 grand a piece. You can do residential moving, scrap removal, landscaping (buy a zero turn lawnmower too) car towing, snow removal, literally endless avenues you can take if you literally just own a truck. Almost all of those can be done with this little guy too; and it only cost 3k imported from Japan and you already have a shtick with it. You can be fuckn “Tiny Truck Movers!” Or some shit

Gotcha. I'm down here in dirty Jersey and the "home improvement license" requirements actually aren't terrible, I'm assuming that's what a biz like this would require here. Just need to be bonded for a $mill I think, dont believe it's crazy expensive to get that coverage. I guess in your case why the fuck would you need to carry crazy insurance since you're walking into shitshows regardless.

So are you actually in asbestos? I’m trying to figure out my way in removal, I found all the legal shit I need but I can’t find the equipment I need.
>>15025350
So
>5 grand for the truck (plus another thousand for the taxes and insurance and stuff)
>marketing is interpersonal and phone calls
>office supplies were about 2 grand for a computer, software and iPhone
>the rest was mostly operational costs
Bags, dump runs, tools(shovels and cans and respirators and stuff) gas was a bit.
Starting out I followed firetrucks then the next day called the owner, I called apartments and contractors. Talked to inspectors, insurance guys, got in contact with frats at the end of the year. Shit like that, now if you mean how you’d find me? It’s a little tricky. You almost have to google me by name. I think I pop up if you look for fire cleanup or hoarding clean up, shit like that. I also have adds out for scrap metal removal.
