They all took a MAJOR hit last week, when RGR had bad ER. AOBC also seemed to plummet off of tariff news, so I’m not sure what’s going on.

I somehow managed to set a limit buy correctly and bought AOBC damn near the 52-week low on June 3. Last week, went from having 17.5% profits to 12.5%. Too bad I didn’t buy more when the limit buy hit, I was too FUDded. 17.5% of $8.25 isn’t much.

Yeah the longer you hold the less the tax man bites you on the ass when the time comes. You still pay tax on Divvys, still counts as income even though your reinvested them but it still is less of an bite than if you sold.

I'm in a mix of things. Growth (short term profit) and Long term holdings (divvys). Split pretty much 50/50. KDP/DIS/T/CTL/KHC/Comcast/ an S&P 500 fund are my main Divvy stocks.

umm... if you're concerned about investing for the long term, and are worried about taxes, you should be putting up to $6000 into a Roth IRA every year. You don't need to buy stocks with it immediately, but when you do, make sure to use a DRiP, to get compounding growth over your entire life, and then withdraw when you retire.

That means though that you can't really touch that money for many years, without paying fees, so is only a good idea if you're not going to need that $6000 for a long time. (I believe you can withdraw each year's initial investment after something like 5 years, thought it's better if you don't have to do that because the idea is to build you a comfy, tax-advantaged payout in your retirement)

Where we go from here is a tough call, at least for a brainlet like me. One one hand, we have a Fed chair that isn't really invoking confidence, an ongoing trade war, decent but not stellar earnings, and signs of economic slowdown. On the other hand, consumer confidence is pretty high, credit markets aren't showing signs of weakness, other key econ data isn't really pointing to a recession, and no inversion of the 10-2 (yet). I have a hard time of seeing a breakout to the upside if the market doesn't come out swinging with conviction Monday - Wednesday.

Those are candlesticks. I typically measure from real bodies, not wicks. I think the important thing is to be consistent (body to body, or wick to wick). And you're correct - this is in no way meant to be predictive. If you look at the volumes on the SPY though, the run up from the dip in May was relatively low compared with the 30th of July - the 2nd of August. Just make me think, perhaps, bulls are lacking conviction. Gold is up and BTC also went up about 1k, so this signals to me people are at least hedging more vigorously against more possible bad news.

My work place sucks anymore for new hires. Everyone gets dumped into a 401k but they don't get any say so as to what funds they want. All get a Target fund based on the retirement date. A separate pension is gone. Soon they'll jack the min retirement age to age 65 if the current Gov gets reelected/gets his way. So any benefit to working for the state will be gone. Why bother? I got a 401k from an old job I had a few years ago that's worth a few grand. It's with some shitty company called One America or something. If I were to roll that over into a Fidelity IRA or something then could I actively trade with those funds? This is a small % of my total retirement, so if I got totally justed it's not that big a deal. I just have no idea how the IRA stuff works.

I'm honestly looking at RIOT, it seems to have diverged from BTC a bit, but since BTC bounced up, I'm thinking this is a good week to try some calls on it. I have never had a problem day trading in my IRA.

It took a little while for the funds to appear in my rollover and Roth IRA, but once they're there, I just do what I want no problemo.

I don't know why, but the 401K match % went into a regular 401K, even though I was investing my own contributions into a Roth 401k. So now I have a Roth 401K and a rollover 401K, and it's a bit annoying.

Companies don't do shit like this anymore. I think they think it looks god to have a high share price, and maybe it discourages short term investors, since you generally want HODLers to buy your stocks, instead of people who just want to flip it or weak hands who sell at first sign of trouble.
