Can you guys help me with understanding 3 things?

1) I have a TD Ameritrade account, apparently free trades go into effect fucking TOMORROW. I thought this was how they made money. How the fuck does AMTD make money if there's literally no fee?
2) How does this effect HFT's?
3) Are there more costs associated with shorting a stock compared to going long? I've been trying to figure this out for awhile, currently long in SGMO while doing day trading in my paper account. I haven't seen any extra costs besides the 6.95 atm for shorting just like going long, but I guess there is some margin account fee associated with shorting a stock? Obviously I'm talking about ETB here, and I'm also talking about day trading, what sort of cost am I looking at here? I'm just trying to figure out the actual cost of breaking even right now for shorting for day trades, so I can factor it into my risk and profits.

3rd one is the main one I'm interested in. I really don't understand the costs associated with shorting during day trades or maybe round trip trades. I really want to know how much I have to make to at least break even for those. Worst case scenario, I'll only go long, but holy shit there have been a lot of good short opportunities lately (only been using my paper account for less than a month and already up 15% trading only 20-30k at a time, shorting GM and RAD have been big for me while I practice waiting for ASH for SGMO).

Awesome Oscillator is interesting too (made by the fractal trading guy, interesting watch if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNxt298VVOw ) but I'm not entirely sure how well I can use it for day trading yet, the MACD seems to give better signals so far but idk if I should change the parameters from the default (the nice thing about the default is that it can become a self fulfilling prophecy if everyone else is trading based off of it too)

the point is that you don't just want to go for high yield, you want companies that will consistently increase their dividends throughout recessions, pull backs, corrections, etc. Dividend Kings, Aristocrats, Champions and Contenders is a good place to start. This increases your yield on cost.

If your divvy portfolio total averages 4% you can get $60K per year in divvies alone, with only about 20K taxed at 15% = $57K in money in your pocket.

And if your net income would increase about $3000 every year without any additional capital added due to an average overall dividend increase of 5%.

This is how I plan on being financially independent and working part time at Lowes, Starbucks or Costco to get health bennies paid for and have income to continue my hobby of investing.

You don't buy anymore. After 38 years you'd have over 1 million. This is the power of your Seed money + Drip. The older you get. The more Seed money required. After age 40 your hitting a wall. A lot of magical thinking in here.

They're not going to pull a bait and switch like that, get everyone off robinhood, then reinstate fees. That's just not how things work.

No, they're not acting in the best interest of their customers either, obviously.

It's pretty convenient that Chuck seized the first mover advantage as his book is slated for release, and timed them so they'd happen on the same day. Was it his plan all along? Who knows, maybe he found out TDA was going to do it, and decided to beat them to it, and the timing just worked out nicely

It appears Mr. Charles Schwab is somewhat based, and is unrelated to the steel magnate of the same name.

Chosing whether I stick with him, or try out Etrade, TDAmeritrade, Interactive Brokers, or someone else is going to be a very difficult decision.

I gotta say the whole Divvy income thing looks a bit outta reach once you hit age 40. If you ain't got the ball rolling by then you may want to consider something else. The upfront seed money required is the first hurdle. Next is time. You only got 25 years till age 65. Third is market waves. You dump a fat wad into the market, the wave hits, thus half is gone. So you end up losing a year (or less) of time waiting for your investment to climb back up outta the shat before you even hit the even point, before you even see any Profit. Fourth is Retirement. Your date hits. Good for you. You've made it, you can tell your boss to suck it on your way out. The problem? The market shats on that day. Half your fat wad is gone. Your fucked. You've no job so no income. Half your retirement wad just got uh eaten. What's left ain't really enough to live on. You can't go back to your old job, you quit remember? Yeah, this month was always sticking in the back of my mind for Brexit and the resulting volatility.

With Britain and the EU, the least destabilizing market outcome would be for Boris Johnson get a deal with the EU and everyone's happy.

However, other possibilities;

Johnson gets deposed and a milquetoast remainer Conservative MP to take the reigns to be bent over by the EU in whatever shitty deal they can achieve.

BEAR MODE: No deal happens, Labour agrees to an election after October 31st, Conservatives remain in power either with a majority or a coalition government with the Brexit party.

Put together a brand new strategy this week and backtested several years on a variety of charts and the whole shebang. Looks good enough. Will keep me in rising trends without selling too early, and tell me to get out quickly when trade is likely to fail. Strategy says I shouldn't be in any of the trades I currently hold. Here it is. Not amazing but I wanted to keep it to 1 page and not take longer than an hour or so. There are a few changes some anons suggested which I will make to it when i do JBH now (was really close to buying it at 33.4 today but realised i should prob take a real look instead of making another mistake of following hunches).

I already had $1K of it which was up 20% but bought another $4k today at days minimum which is nice.

I'll post my updated one for JBH later, the guy from The Big Short likes Gamestop due to next gen vidya consoles using physical discs so JB follows same logic right.

Most of it is manual except for the DDM calculator, and yeah it is heaps of fun trying to build it so that it is trustworthy. So far the only ones I have done to this extent are AX1 (bought 5k at 1.6) and BKW (bought 5k at 16 something) and now TWE.

The idea behind shitting on the rating agencies is justifying why things are underpriced i guess (always do opposite of what /biz/ says kinda thing). The one i am referring to is their quant one anyway.

Goldman does some have nicer comments, but reading their shit is so dry and boring and jewish whereas the idea behind this is an "income producing hobby"

>> No.15797942

I want boring and dry and Jewish from my accountants and analysts. If I want entertainment I’ll go elsewhere.

Do you mean the market itself is a money making hobby, or these analysis write ups?

I’ve thought about doing a little coin roll hunting as a money making hobby, but CNBC’s #2 article right now is pumping crh, so that may be entering the normie zeitgeist and become much less doable.

>> No.15797961

The write ups are a hobby and I act on them for skin in the game. Ideally I can get a good enough record to either move to this kinda role (doing stuff in a bank now in credit) or have boomers pay me for my hot takes.

>hurr i didn't get my 10% this year you guys suck
Ok first of all you're a moron and didn't do your homework. Nobody said an index never goes down. It's only supposed to work if you put money regularly through time. And even there it's not guaranteed you'll make money if the S&P starts crabbing like it did between 65 and 82. The idea is that if you buy regularly, even through a recession, you'll make money eventually over the long term, that's what the historical data shows. But I believe in the future only those who can trade crabbing markets will make it. Too much dumb money like you in index funds who are 100% sure they will make it and are unaware we can go through a 1965 style crab market again for 20 years.

tldr: do your fucking homework instead of believing everything you read.
