Whatever stock you buy, you look into the company. Revenue, Earnings, Development over the last year, News, etc.
Once you think a company is underrated or will go up in the future, you buy their stocks.
The most important one is often News/Hype.

Some bad news can drop the stock to new lows, then one good earnings report can blow up the stock 50%.
See Tesla, OGI, BYND, ACB (lol) all from last week.

I've been fiddling with a few different ideas lately.
I'm currently renting at around 1000€/month. I'd love to get out of this situation as quickly as possible, of course. I have a decent property but in another country which is worth around 100-120000€. It's currently rented and that brings very little money, around 325€/month. Would you

a) get a mortgage, pay around the same 1000€/month. Interest on a 350000€ property is around 52.000€ in the span of 30/years. At the same time, sell the aforementioned property, invest it in stonks (I currently get around 20-30% yearly) and pay off the mortgage once it hits the target profit all at once.

b) keep renting, sell property, invest it and buy a new home with cash once it reaches target profit.

im looking to buy and hold AMD for awhile, i feel like their ER is going to be great. im practicing and getting ready to eventually do day trading full time but my brother thinks i should put my money in something and hold it for a longer period of time so im at least growing my money while i wait and practice, felt like AMD was a good choice from all I've read about them.

basically I'd like to buy them on red days/around levels of support, and then sell for $1 in profit, wash rinse repeat. as long as they maintain the uptrend on the daily chart at least, know what i mean?

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/20/business/boeing-737-accidents.html

> Jan. 20, 2020, 6:00 a.m. ET

> After a Boeing 737 crashed near Amsterdam more than a decade ago, the Dutch investigators focused blame on the pilots for failing to react properly when an automated system malfunctioned and caused the plane to plummet into a field, killing nine people.

> The fault was hardly the crew’s alone, however. Decisions by Boeing, including risky design choices and faulty safety assessments, also contributed to the accident on the Turkish Airlines flight. But the Dutch Safety Board either excluded or played down criticisms of the manufacturer in its final report after pushback from a team of Americans that included Boeing and federal safety officials, documents and interviews show.

> The crash, in February 2009, involved a predecessor to Boeing’s 737 Max, the plane that was grounded last year after accidents in Indonesia and Ethiopia killed 346 people and hurled the company into the worst crisis in its history.

> A review by The New York Times of evidence from the 2009 accident, some of it previously confidential, reveals striking parallels with the recent crashes — and resistance by the team of Americans to a full airing of findings that later proved relevant to the Max.

> In the 2009 and Max accidents, for example, the failure of a single sensor caused systems to misfire, with catastrophic results, and Boeing had not provided pilots with information that could have helped them react to the malfunction. The earlier accident “represents such a sentinel event that was never taken seriously,” said Sidney Dekker, an aviation safety expert who was commissioned by the Dutch Safety Board to analyze the crash.

Thus, we do not read the Second Amendment to protect the right of citizens to carry arms for any sort of confrontation, just as we do not read the First Amendment to protect the right of citizens to speak for any purpose. I mean yeah, basically. There's a reason most countries just ignores them even if they cut or boost the outlook. Everyone knows that there are countries like India that will lower the entire globe in terms of statistics if they are projected to do badly for a few years, but that doesn't mean others will follow suit which traders/investors/algos or what not have realized since forever ago.
This is why we didn't see any kind of reaction in the markets either, kek'd.

HFT pays a fuck load of commissions yet make billions. The point is if your strategy makes money but happens to rack up "costs" in the form of what was articulated in my post don't get fucked up in the head you need to change to lower said costs. Trade what works for you. Many newfags think like you, end up with losses trying to "save money" swing trading yet their talent was in scalping. In this example they were scalping got put off by the commissions then decided to get smart only to lose money in the end. If that's too much to wrap your little peanut brain around then stay poor

The house; 3 bed, 1 & 1/2 bath, basement, garage, main floor redone by previous owners. Pay just $400 a month. How'd I get it? By striking during the housing shit fest and hanging some damning piss poor reno attempts over there heads (they tried to redo the basement electrical themselves). The cars: 2014 Toyota corolla (mine), A Chevy Malibu (hers). I work just 8 miles from home in a smallish city. You get dividends automatically, you don't need to enroll in anything to get dividends from your holdings
You DO need to enroll in a Dividend Reinvestment Program, or DRIP, which automatically takes each dividend payout and uses it to purchase fractional shares of the dividend-paying security. Sometimes using a DRIP gives you a small discount on buying these fractional shares. Also usually when websites track performances of securities they include any capital gains being reinvested into the charts.

Why do prices move? Because there are more buyers than sellers? No. For every buy there is a sell. No more buyers than sellers overall...why does it move then? Because there are more (buyers than sellers/ or inversely) at a given price. If there are more buyers than sellers at a given price then the price moves up to compensate until the number of buys matches the number of sells again.
>inb4 >not more buyers than.. .... more buy than sell therefore price
No, ..the price moves immediately to compensate. It's not a slow move which you could profit from, which then means that what you see as the price line is the timeseries of the equilibrium of the market. Which also means that there is no such thing as overbought or oversold. What makes the price move is a change of the underlying disparity vector along the price axis. So... how do we profit from this?
One metric is certainly volume by change of price...basically how much volume is needed to push the price by one point. You often see trends ending with a high volume, small range candle...but that's old shit. Pls help

I'll be presumptuous and assume you meant my philosophy. /biz/ doesn't have LaTeX so bull with me here. We model the value of our portfolio, Z, as a vector imposed on a vector field of a single underlying, with bases of all available buying and selling actions. We assume a symmetry that an account at $X value is the same as an account at $Y value, provided no action has been taken on the account (i.e. the account is not changing value w.r.t. any variable. dZ = 0). This allows us to investigate the value of our account and it's derivative independent of starting value. If one buys an underlying, then later sells it, the change in value of the account is as follows:
>Z = n(S - S0)
where n is the number of stock purchased, S the selling price, and S0 the buying price. Observe for yourself this is true. Then, the value of a call option at expiration is given by the piecewise function
>C = -P if S <= K; S - K - P if S > K
Where S is the stock's price at expiration, P the premium paid, and K the strike. If we sell the call instead, it is conveniently modeled as (-1) * C.
What happens when we buy a stock and then sell a call against it? We simply add them into Z (by virtue of assuming a vector field).
>Z = S - S0 - C = S - S0 + P if S <= K; -S0 + K + P if S > K
We omit n because calls are sold in lots of 100s of stock.
We arrive at 2 scenarios depending on whether our call was assigned or not:
>We were not assigned - we were better off than just owning the stock alone because of the additive premium term.
>We were assigned. Notice that the account's change in value with respect to the stock price S is zero, and that this term is always positive.
That second scenario is my philosophy: the account's balance changed positively regardless of the stock's price - we were delta neutral!

Yeah ok so here's a calculated real world example. GPC is about 100 dollars per share right now. The farthest out of the money I can purchase on the options chain (at least according to this calculator) is 135, so I've bought 10 contracts at 0.15 cents per share (15 dollars per contract) with a strike price in may.

So you can see if the price jumps up even like 10 percent within a month, you double your money. If it jumps 20 percent, you could walk away with thousands in profit. But that's not very likely, is it? Any historic volatility will be priced into the contracts, and GPC is cheap because it usually doesn't move that much.

Which with all the upcoming things pending for them won't be much of a stretch to pull off. A bit of good news and these things tend to fly. Hell the target price is listed at 13 as the high and the 52w high is 4.5. So now I sit and wait for the good news to fall.

Growing foods locally on a small foot print is the ultimate for independence. This is why UN agendas resist this and instead push us into towers. They want us dependant on them. I grow almost everything I eat myself!!! I've no set amount. They use a formula. Average of 5 years salary, divided by months worked, times 12. First part. Second part is what they call benefit factor. Mine would be 1.97%. Third part is the number of years time.
So it goes like this Salary average x 1.97% x 27 yrs. Then they got little loopholes I can use. Sick time for example. Can use that to increase my final pension amount or use it to retire a bit sooner yet still draw a full pension. But oh well. Just 12 more years to go,straight time that is. Sick time I'm still debating on. Hell I got 7 months of it as it is now. (Hardly ever sick, I've used maybe 5 days since 2005). Vacation time; I've burned a lot of that, lol.

Fair enough. Nowadays companies can lose money for three years straight and gain value.

But to gain in value a company needs to have at least some... I dont know... perspective? to maybe make money in the future.

But as long as Bezos is there this is not a concern as well. I think I will pick up a few tomorrow. Cant hurt.

Shit... just like the korean face mask and pharmas yesterday... any plays that seem worthwhile that I can get in through ADR's or ETFs? If this turns out to be big, I don't want to be owning anything else in China, this could be a major headwind to their economy.

The spread is alarming on the new coronovirus, implies maybe airborne or at least droplet.

Genuine question. Why SNSS? What makes them so interesting?

Is anyone interested in AMRN? They got a good potential for a buy out due to their cardiovascular drug. Fish oil will change the world.
