Public accounting will hire anyone with a CPA, but they will force you to work 60 hours a week with no overtime pay and the pay is SHIT. All my friends that majored in computer science got six figure job offers before they even graduated. My job will be fully automated within 10 years. DONT go the accounting route. Even if I transferred to private accounting in a few years I'd only be making $70k and complete with a million asians meanwhile my CS and data science friends would already be making $300k

No shit that's because we are in a tech bubble. Literally all of these tech companies run at losses, creating no value for society, all fueled by fiat printed out of thin air by banks. So of course they can pay crazy wages to their employees, the whole industry is saturated with free money. When the bubble pops you are going to see millions of these CS majors struggling to find work and wages are going to fall.

PLEASE share your wisdom with me. I'm also not interested in CPA, yet it's pushed so hard everywhere around me. I want to do private accounting, but everyone is always talking about the prestige of being CPA and shit with companies like Becker and Wiley coming to shill their shit ALL the time. It's actually really annoying me and pushing me towards working for IRS which has no such requirements and which I actually am interested in after talking to them for a bit.

It's all bullshit. You are funnelled towards CPA path because colleges get more money if you sign up for the classes (my state requires 150 hrs of classes not just 120 hrs to sit the exam). Same shit happened at my school, constant fucking shilling for Big4 and large CPA firms for this reason.

I fucked up in college and didn't get any internships (but did graduate early and with a solid GPA). Couldn't find work for four months after graduating so I said fuck it and went to a accounting temp agency. They got me a job in two weeks with just a phone interview and 5min "interview" in person where they basically confirmed I was a warm body with a accounting degree. I made $16 or so a hour for about 5 months then got in contact with another recruiter and they got me a new $23 per hour temp job. That company hired me on full time after just 3 months for $50k salary plus another $10k in bullshit like free medical and 401k matching and stock options.

I can't stress how important recruiters are. A surprising number of companies don't do any HR at all they outsource everything and just pay lump sum per new employee to a recruiter if they need a position filled.

I worked remotely 4-5 of 5 days a week as a software automation engineer fixing the shit pajeets broke. I was paid a lot and the job was easy as fuck but I gave it up for a more promising, less stressful non-remote 6 hours a day job without pajeets and a little worse pay. Work is a lot harder but I get more experience than I could have ever got in my last job.

When I started the company had already spent over 1.5yrs and way too much money just to replace their ancient CRM with a custom web based one. They had bought a basic whitelabel solution, PHP+React skeleton type thing, and had a few freelancer ’jeets hack up the code for that whole time. By the time I got there it was an unholy mess. Spaghetti code galore, inconsistent everything, total nightmare. I literally convinced CTO to start over completely; he fired the remote cucks and we began a blank ASP.NET project lololol it’s going much quicker & I feel in charge since I’m the only dev there besides the cto himself.
