you discriminate between bananas when you pick the more ripe looking bunch from the greener ones for example
depending on what things youre discriminating between, what criteria youre discriminating on, and what you end up choosing based on that criteria is what everyone gets their feathers ruffled over
arguably racial discrimination can lead to increased profits if you only serves whites as a business if youre trying to avoid theft and property damage, but the shitty reputation (and broken laws) that that would cause would inevitably fuck your business into oblivion
