At this point I'm bullish but it's going to take a bit for the slow ass shit brains to go bullish. Everyone is going to get carried away with being bearish

You are going to see a decimation of so many American small businesses as a result, there's nothing to do to stop that. Then, the more sadly, in comparison, minor issue that the U.S. can no longer be a net exporter of oil. All of that is going to hit when we see a massive spike in unemployment, on a very stressed economy. Oh, yeah, hey guys, you do remember Iran killed another American a few days ago? On March 1st people who actually do epidemiology for a living (unlike you) estimated that 1,000 - 10,000 Americans had it. Even if we doubled every week with 10,000 Americans infected on March 1st, we're at ~40,000 now. Nowhere near 70% of the country.

I am betting on oil, and betting on it as a long term play. I'm heavily in XOM, but own all the companies listed above. It's almost a 10% dividend right now.

I yolo'd and all-in'd VTSAX. I'm down 110k to 83k. I'm intending on riding this damn wave all the way out, even if society is collapsing.

But I was wondering how big brain of a play it is to sell off, take the loss (17k as of now), and then buy back dollar cost averaging the entire way down until we're at the fuckin' breadlines and riots are in the streets.

good idea or shite idea?

The last trade was at 4% down. Then, nobody was willing to trade above 5% down. Therefore no trades go through. When trading is halted, the actual value of the future is in fact below 5% down. So DOW futures are really beneath 20,000 at this point.

the insanity begins and ends with cheap money. why does the fed print trillions and keep interest rates at perpetual zero? why does the government throw dollars away with increasing abandon? they do not value the dollar. they have debased it over generations and realize that this ship is now sinking at an unrecoverable rate.

what is happening now is the rest of the world is realizing it too. the virus is an excuse and merely masks the true gravity of the situation at hand. our world has become inverted.

Hong Kong Hang Seng Index right now

>> No.17899730

>>17899286
This is your last opportunity for financial freedom before retirement. Don't let them take it from you. Puts are so easy to learn.

A put is composed of 100 contracts. Each contract represents the right to buy one share of stock at the put's list price. The list price is a dollar amount.

A stock called XYZ is trading at $25. You buy a put (100 contracts) with a list price of $20. The stock XYZ drops to $15. You have the legal right to sell 100 shares of XYZ for $20 when they're currently trading at $15.

Think about it. If you have the right to sell 100 shares of XYZ at $20, and they're currently trading for $15 each, you can make a $500 profit just by buying 100 shares for $15 on the market and then exercising your right to sell them for $20 each!

Or, if you don't want to buy the shares on the open market, you can simply sell your now extremely valuable put to someone who wants it for a fair price.

This comes with a trade-off. Puts come with an expiration date. If the stock doesn't lose value by the expiration date after you buy your put, your put is worthless. But to compensate, puts are very cheap, far cheaper than the stock that they're linked with. It sometimes costs less to buy a put, which represents 100 shares of stock, than a single share of that very same stock, due to the greater risk involved and strings attached.

What does that mean? Instead of buying 10 shares of stock, you can buy 10 puts, and have the right to sell 1,000 shares of that stock at a certain price!

If the price drops $5 below the break-even point of your put, you've made $5,000! Way more than you would get with 10 shares of any stock. Greater risk, but far greater reward.
