Actually, I think a 6-7% bleed is pretty modest, and signals that there is more optimism around airlines than current headlines would suggest.

I bought more LUV today, and may buy some additional JETS to boost sector exposure. I am keeping it to around 5% of my total portfolio, though, because it's pretty risky at this point. I think individual picks are better now, because the Big 3 and Southwest will never fold, but smaller airlines and manufacturers are boned.

Should we see $70 or even below again, thank the gods for their grace in allowing you to buy more at a discount. If you are already all in you start selling valuables. If you have literally every single last dime in SOXL then you start rolling shares over to out of the money call options. If it corrects more roll more shares. Depends. If you're a long term investor just buy shares. If it drops and you're all in then exchange the shares for LEAP calls.
If you're a short term trader then note the S&P is at a key level and what happens next determines a lot. If we hard break through the 2750 support on the SPX then we'll probably dive pretty hard and we might be looking at a double bottom. Between now and then just flip monthly puts. Once we hit that bottom and if you're a trader then monthly calls it is through the subsequent rally. After that we see what happens. Personally I'm long term bullish on SOXL so I've just been buying shares since last month. I day trade index futures though which is a different deal altogether

Airlines are stupid expensive to run. They have already accumulated damage they cannot recoup for the next 4-5 years and if they don't return to regular capacity right now, that will only exacerbate. Cruise lines are relatively super cheap and don't rely on 24/7 100% occupancy to keep their head above water.

Exactly, the equity will get wiped out, the bondholders will get screwed and someone like Buffett will swoop in and buy up the assets for nothing and make a killing.

Your equity in airlines existing in 10 years is different from airlines themselves existing in 10 years. You're betting on the first one which is extremely unlikely on the basis that you will be able to collect on the second one. Even if it doesn't go bankrupt your equity will get continually eroded to pay for cash injections.

Sure.
But Delta and air travel demand is basically big oil company X and oil per barrel spot price. The cash reserves of big oil are much larger and the companies have already prepared in the past for hibernation mode from earlier crashes. It took like 5 years for flying to recover from 9/11.
You hold for long enough you will get some decent returns but there are so many better plays that are short term now. It's why I dislike my JBLU bags so much despite liking the airline.

This is an identical market situation to all previous oil tanker bull runs. Bull runs which shoot up to hundreds of points worth. Except this time, the super contango which is shared between all tanker bull runs is even larger this time than ever before. Investors have held off until they can see paper evidence, and there will be another wave that compounds after once contracts roll over again for oil prices. Paper evidence is coming out tomorrow after market from DHT, who already is going to support a massive dividend by itself. Tankers are cheap because they are debt riddled and got rekt by high oil demand last 5 years, but most company's debts are already almost gone from the sheer profits they are making in this crisis. You can x10 your money as a conservative estimate, the upside is truly much greater.

>>18862693
DHT and FRO, you can split your money between them. They are the largest, they are conservative and won't squander everything, and they pay highest divvy. You can invest in NAT too, but it is lower priority. You will have to pay attention to oil rollovers in the future to see the adjusting tanker rental prices to know when to sell, but this will run up for 2 quarters to massive heights at minimum.

>>18862721
I kind of agree with you. But I still find it a really nice thought. I want an actual home, but if I can ever afford it I would want one. Not something I would throw my money out for unless I can actually maintain.

Nope. I do write as a hobby, but I have no career in it. I am glad I could sell you though. If you are truly uncomfortable, sell after making a decent profit, but all the evidence imo points to a larger bull run so perhaps if you might want to let it ride, sell back some shares later to make up money initially invested, and then let the rest go up if you can't commit to letting the whole thing go.

>>18863454
At least, but probably larger. x10 is good enough to say "I did perfectly fine" and exit even if it does keep going up. Your call, with these bull runs for tankers they can just keep on going. Check DHT and FRO's ATH's and you will quickly understand when you realize the catalyst that caused them to rise back then is even stronger now.
