Time which is what you are being billed for even if you declined the recommended work uncovered in the inspection. You may not agree with the hourly rate (dealers are outrageous) but there isn’t anything surprising here.

Next time ask for the estimate up front before approving even the inspection.

Btw, pulling an oil pan is literally nothing. Buy some gasket maker. Drain the oil. Pull the pan. Scrape the old gasket off. Use new gasket maker sealant. Put pan back on. Fill with new oil. Change oil filter while you're at it.

Mercedes are literal trash. They have way too many onboard computers that glitch out and fail to properly communicate with one another or stop working completely. Mercedes look nice and have good interiors but they regularly underperform. Get an Audi or something made in Japan/Korea. Ultimately you’ll want reliability unless you’re leasing, in which case get a good deal on a car you like.

I’d personally recommend buying a nice used car seeing as new car purchases are ALWAYS beneficial to the dealer and not the buyer, but I’m sure there’s some big hole in your heart that will be filled by buying the same Mercedes you see everywhere.

I rebuilt and maintain my 1973 cb350. It is comparatively simple next to a modern car with electronics, many more systems, and more difficult access. All I can say is that poking around in each area trying to diagnose an issue can take many hours, and then it might take hours more to fix it properly. These places charge at a pretty fair hourly rate to do this for you, and knowing how long it takes, I'd say this is a pretty decent deal.
