They're not. The thing is gold/silver can go down on panic based market drops because of indescriminate portfolio liquidations. This is what happened in March. People jumping out of everything straight to cash. With gold's steep v recovery in spring, a lot of that money went right back in.

As for now, breakout attempt is still in progress. Sometimes gold in particular has to slowly wiggle through resistance instead of smashing it.
