Alcoholics are literally ALL OVER THE PLACE. And if you close liquor stores and 20 million full blown alcoholics across the country you are going to have thousands die and thousands break windows at liquor stores to get something they LITERALLY NEED TO SURVIVE. Withdrawal from alcohol is literally worse than being raped and you simply cant close liquor stores and put alcoholics life and health in danger.

can confirm. was a half-gallon-a-day 40% vodka alcoholic at my worst. drank when i woke up, at work, when i got home. you WILL die if you quit cold turkey and it's an absolutely shit way to go.

thanks fren. the heavy drinking started when i had a parent die and the other move away (they were divorced). i had about $40,000 in inheritance and wasted it all being a NEET over the course of 2 years. I'd drink every day, about half a fifth, then 3/4ths. i remember specifically a point in my life about 5 years ago when id wake up shaking but not cold and wonder wtf was going on. eventually i realized taking a few shots made me stop shaking. so thats when the morning drinking started. from there on the quantity it took for me to get drunk increased until i was at a half- gallon a day. that didn't last long though, about 3 months and i was in the hospital for pancreatitis (and acute liver disease but they never did a biopsy so i think the doc was just trying to scare me straight, liver was really swollen though)

took 3 hospital trips to detox before i finally went to rehab and accepted i had a MAJOR problem and could never drink again

I've drank 5 months on end everyday all day while working (10-15 drinks a day) and then stopped cold turkey for months off and on. it's just a matter of will. I used to do heroin and opiates with my friends who ended up addicted and they ALL followed the same lab coat narrative. It's like a script they feed themselves. I can beat anything just dry and water fasting. for the record i think alcohol and all substances should be illegal with harsh penalties. If you just keep me from the shit I won't do it. If i keep candy and junk food out of my house i don't eat it. if it's in the house i eat it. I think prohibition works and the arguments that it creates a black market and people do it anyway is bullshit propaganda. If you have less of something there will be less of something even if some people still do it in the shadows, it doesn't make more people do it in toto. I think there is something to people putting ideas into their bodies and they become victims of these ideas about how the script is supposed to go. just look at health and food. It's always changing, butter is good butter is bad fat is bad fat is good, vegan cured me all meat diet cured me etc etc just look what a horse eats and how robust and muscular and healthy they are. they literally eat grass they don't put vitamins in their bodies but they definitely don't put ideas about health into their bodies they just eat or not eat and rest when injured. I'm not claiming to know I just think we don't quite know how any of this really works yet. Our physical bodies got this far without all these concepts and ideas about health, likely in spite of them. pretty wild stuff to think about
